British geriatricians first coined the term CGA in the

1930s based on the tenet that a multidimensional


assessment of capabilities and problems of frail
elderly

patients

can

lead

to

functional

health

benefits. The CGA is defined as a multidimensional,


often interdisciplinary, diagnostic process intended to
determine

psychosocial,

frail
and

elderly
functional

persons

medical,

capabilities

and

problems with the objective of developing an overall


plan for treatment and long-term follow-up. The
domains

of

the

CGA

include

physical

medical

conditions (including nutrition status), mental health
