Lesson: Learning About Jobs

Objective: Without reference materials, be able to list and

describe three jobs within the community.
Overview: Students will discuss their desired future jobs, and write
a short paragraph about the job. Students will include
information about the job, the relation to the community, as well
as why they chose that job.
Materials: Internet access, computer, projector, powerpoint,
journals (or regular lined paper) for each student
Audience: The students in this classroom have different ability
levels, therefore the activities provided can be altered to the
specific needs of each student. The teacher or any instructional
aids may need to assist students who are beginners. We also
would have them slip up into two groups.
Teaching standards:
Equity: Quality professional learning focuses on equitable access,
opportunities, and outcomes for all students, with an emphasis on
addressing achievement and opportunity disparities between
student groups.
Design and Structure: Quality professional learning reflects
evidence-based approaches, recognizing that focused, sustained
learning enables educators to acquire, implement, and assess
improved practices.

will
Have the students share what they think the job in the
picture is
Then show the students the word associated with the job
9:20-9:25 Give the students some time to think about/discuss jobs
they may be interested in. Have the students get out their
journals.
9:25-9:35 Once the students have all picked a job begin
discussing the descriptions of the jobs. Have the students write
about the description pertaining to their desired future job.
9:35-9:45 After the students have written about their future job
descriptions, have them write about the jobs importance to the
community.
Assessment: Students will be informally assessed by their ability
to discuss the jobs presented in the powerpoint. Students will be
formally assessed on the written paragraph they write about their
desired future job.
