We gather this morning and begin our prayer by
making the sign of the cross (using right hand,
touch forehead, chest, left shoulder and lastly
right shoulder).
Teacher will light the candle.
On the prayer table, we have placed purple
material to mark the beginning of the Lenten
period. Purple is the colour used to symbolise Lent
and is the colour of repentance.

Reader 1
Lent begins today with the signing of ashes and
ends with our great celebration of Easter. Lent is a
time to take action. Its Gods invitation to us to
become better people.
Reader 2
Lent is a time to turn away from our wrongdoings
and follow the message of the Gospel. We can do
this by really trying our best, especially throughout
the season of Lent to be the best person we can
be.

Liturgy of the Word

Readings

Reader 6
A reading from the Gospel of Matthew 6:1-4
Jesus said to his disciples:
Be careful not to practice your righteousness in
front of others to be seen by them. If you do, you
will have no reward from your Father in heaven.
2 So when you give to the needy, do not
announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in
the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored
by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their
reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy,
do not let your left hand know what your right
hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in
secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in
secret, will reward you.
When you do good deeds, dont try to show off.
If you do, you wont get a reward from your Father
in heaven.
The Gospel of the Lord.
All: Praise to you Lord, Jesus Christ

Lords Prayer (Will be said altogether)

The Lords Prayer will

be displayed on the
whiteboard for

Our Father, Who art in heaven

Hallowed be Thy Name;
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Concluding Prayer
Teacher
Let us now stand to have our final prayer.
Gods love is with us even when we do the wrong
thing. Gods love is everlasting. Gods face looks
on us with love. We must show Gods loving face
to the world.
We make this prayer, through Christ our Lord
All: Amen
