Over the eight week course, I communicated with students on a weekly basis via the discussion
board and email if needed. I was asked to follow up with students who were not compliant or
having difficulties with following netiquette on the discussion board. I did communicate with a
positive tone and provided concrete feedback when necessary. In addition to the discussion board,
I answered all questions posted in the Interns Korner regarding e-portfolios, questions about the
Practicum, or any other questions related to the course. Students seemed appreciative of my
feedback and I received positive comments.
I meet with Susan weekly via the telephone and we discussed the plans for the week. I also
assisted in three online synchronous meetings via Adobe Breeze Connect. Overall, I feel I met
this objective by completing all the required tasks laid out by Susan and maintaining a
professional, yet caring online voice.

Diane was warm and inquisitive in her communication with me and students. There were several
times that I asked her to follow up on a student and knew she would find the right words to
approach a delicate situation.
Her feedback to students was accurate and instructional. She gave them ideas for improvement,
but her real strength was in observing and then noting what they were doing right.

Discussion interaction
Throughout the course, intern will facilitate discussion group every other week (or as
directed).
An active discussion participant, posting at least 2 times per day from Wed-Sat.
Answers student questions with patience, confidence and resourcefulness.
Looks for stranded posts (Primary posts that have not gotten a response within a
reasonable period of time.) and responds as needed.
Intern promotes student understanding of the connection between course work and
professional work outside of the online classroom.
Interns discussion additions expand the learning and stimulate additional research,
questions and/or discussion.
Following the close of the module, the intern will review student participation and
recommend to the cooperating instructor a preliminary score and comment for student
performance using the course grade scale. Scores and comments will be reviewed by
instructor before posting.
Interns self-assessment comments (upon completion).
I graded 11 students weekly on the discussion board. I viewed and added to the discussion early
in the week. By posting earlier, I made my presence known on the discussion board. I
encouraged critical thinking by utilizing prompts, extenders, and redirection. I answered
students threads which were not answered by other students and answered different students
posts throughout the course of the eight weeks. In grading the discussion board, I utilized a table

to evaluate the original post, number of replies, and due dates. This table was sent to Susan on a
weekly basis so that she could view the students grade and feedback.
I met this objective by consistently adding to the discussion board, encouraging critical thinking,
and grading the students on a weekly basis. I added to the discussion board by posting YouTube
Videos that were appropriate to the thread or reply. These videos were used to add to the
discussion and enhance learning regarding instructional design.

Active, guiding presence in discussion. Diane established a presence early on. Each week she
introduced herself to the group she facilitated. Her frequency was just right ; not too active but
definitely engaged. The students responded very positively to her comments.

Professional Communication

Interns communication with cooperating instructor is polite, supportive and timely.

Email communication with cooperating instructor is brief and to the point.
Should special circumstances arise the intern keeps the cooperating instructor informed
as soon as possible.
Intern respects a chain of command by always consulting the cooperating instructor first
about any elements of student performance.
Intern understands the need for strict confidentiality when working online. This means
that specific student information and performance data is only to be discussed with the
cooperating instructor (first) and practicum supervisor.
Participates in a routine phone conference with cooperating instructor (every week at
first, then tapering to every 2 weeks)
Intern is proactive, providing the required communications and reports without being
repeatedly prompted by the cooperating instructor.

Interns self-assessment comments (upon completion).

I felt my interaction with Susan was extremely positive and I looked forward to our weekly
conversations. In regards to email communication, I always ccd Susan on my replies and the
majority of the time discussed any communication with Susan before sending to the student.
From this experience, I gained not only good role modeling from Susan about online instruction
but Susan has a great outlook on life, and I deemed her feedback valuable.
I met this objective by communicating with Susan in a professional manner, being aware of her
time demands. I utilized appropriate chains of command in communicating with the students in
the course. I was proactive in communicating any needs of my own while interning in the course
as during these eight weeks, I accepted an offer to sale my house and move in four weeks. An
overwhelming task which did not interfere with the quality of my work, as I made this class a
priority.

This was very good. Diane is someone who gives thoughtful consideration to everything she
writes. Our communication on weekly meetings was cordial and I appreciated that she asked
questions and was genuinely interested.

Administrative/Teaching tasks (Pre-course and ongoing)

1. Reviews all links and course readings and links to be sure all are updated and available.
2. Reviews all course materials closely for needed text edits.
3. Provides feedback on course design, technical tools and dynamics.
4. Should a broken link or editing problem arise, the intern facilitates content revision with
specific and detailed feedback on where and what the problem is.
5. Reviews additional resources (from instructor announcements or student posts) and
ensures those resources are collected in the google form.
Interns self-assessment comments (upon completion).
Before the class began, I reviewed all the current links to ensure that no links were broken. I sent
feedback to Susan regarding any broken links throughout the course of the eight weeks. I stayed
abreast of topics that needed to be changed or corrected.
I met this objective by reviewing all the links related to course material at the beginning of the
course and throughout the course. As previously stated, I added YouTube videos or links to
enhance learning regarding Instructional Design.

This was fineit is never the highest priority with me.

Synchronous sessions/Outreach
1. Participate in synchronous sessions.
2. Actively post to intern discussion forum to encourage questions from students about our
program.
3. Provide informal tech assistance, especially on portfolio development.
4. Encourage use of the class Google form to capture resources and links.
Interns self-assessment comments (upon completion).
I participated in three synchronous meetings, although I realized using very high tech earplugs
only increased the noise volume on my end, which included the Metra, the hot tub, and the
dishwasher. After that meeting, I found a YouTube video about Adobe Breeze meetings which I
shared with my class. In any future meetings, I was acutely aware of volume control!
I met this objective by participating in all synchronous sessions and adding appropriate feedback.
I answered questions throughout the meeting. I answered all questions regarding portfolio
development and added information about sites to use when developing a portfolio.

We laughed at a couple challenges with the synchronous sessions, but I appreciated her
presence. She was very helpful with prompting students about the portfolio project.

Diane had a lot going on with packing and moving during the class, and yet she was a consistent,
positive presence for the students and a real asset for me. She brings wisdom and patience to the
role and I am sure shell put all she knows to good use. Good luck, Diane!

This was an amazing learning experience and journey in teaching a masters level online course.
Susan was a great role model and I added much to my already online knowledge base from her
feedback and outstanding online knowledge. I felt I derived much from this experience and am
grateful to have worked with Susan. During the course of the eight weeks, I increased my
knowledge about instructional design, online teaching, and D2L. Overall, an amazing
experience.
