Conclusion

Readymix, a member of the TCL Group, is regarding as Trinidads leading producers

of high quality concrete and related product since 1959. Its quarry operations
produces aggregate for the both concreting and non-concreting purposes.
Concreting aggregate requires low organic residue. This aggregate is now sent to
washing plant for clarification and grading. The Quarry now uses a new DUO/TWS
washing plant replaces an existing plant that had been over burdened with
inadequacies and maintenance and production issues. Operating at 200 tons/h, this
new washing plant is designed to deliver for grades of products. These grades are 06mm sand and 6-10mm, 10-20mm, 20-75mm aggregate. For quality assurance
Readymix follows the ASTM C40 for organic purities in aggregate and also ASTM C33
which list test that should be conducted on the aggregate. These tests are
conducted daily.
After tests are conducted the aggregate is sent to the concrete plant where they
conduct their own quality assurance test based on the standards to ensure the
quality of the aggregate is one for concreting purposes. When testing fresh concrete
a slump test is done to measure strength and workability. Also samples are made in
concrete molds on site and after 24hrs. they are removed and brought to the lab for
curing. Three samples are taken: one for crushing after 7 days, one for crushing
after twenty eight days and another as a backup when needed. This test is done to
ensure the strength of the concrete.
The mixing process of the concrete is computerized where each component is taken
from a series of silos and tanks and is pumped and conveyed to concrete mixers
(cement trucks).The average capacity of these plants are 130m 3/hr. Readymix boast
in having an extensive network of concrete plants throughout Trinidad and Tobago
and has also expanded their operations to regional markets such as Barbados. The
Barbados Plant batches at a rate of 45m3/hr.
