3. Your Speech

(prepare, practice, present)


PREPARE
Step 1
Know your topic and know what you are talking about. You should be able to discuss
all aspects of your topic (method, results/findings, data analysis and
recommendations.)
Step 2
Divide the presentation between group members. It should be evenly shared. Each
member should speak for approximately 3-4 minutes.
Step 3
Write out your entire speech.
Remember to signpost. This is where you guide your audience through your speech.
Eg: Tonight I am the first speaker and I will be discussingMy next point isIn
conclusionAnd now Ill pass over to Simone
Step 4
Transfer your speech to palm size cue cards. Your speech should now be in dot points.
Remember to use cardboard for your cue cards and number each card.
PRACTICE
Step 5
Practice, practice, practice. Read through your speech several times. Practice in front
of the mirror and practice in front of a friend.

Step 6
Before you step in front of your audience check that you have all your cue cards and
that they are in order. Check that your slide show is ready and working.
If you are nervous, breathe deeply, smile and speak slowly.
