Dogan, B., & Almus, K. (2014). School Administrators Use of iPads: Impact of Training and
Attitudes Toward School Use.Computers in the Schools, 31(3), 233250.

INTRODUCTION
Research Questions (if research questions are not specifically mentioned, what is
the theoretical background or overarching theme):
1. What is the impact of the training process on school administrators use of iPads for
administrative tasks and personal organization in their professional duties?
2. What is the impact of the training process on school administrators beliefs regarding
how teachers should use iPads in the classroom?
3. Are there any differences in school administrators survey responses based on
gender, age, years of experience in school administration and education, highest degree
attained, school classification, or school size?
Purpose of the research:
This study was conducted to obtain information on how iPad training effects the
professional and personal life of school administrators and their attitude towards iPad
use in classrooms.
METHODOLOGY
What is the methodology for the research or approach used to understand the
issue? Provide information regarding the following:

Participants:
51 Elementary and Secondary school administrators from one of the largest
public charter school systems in a southwestern state.
Procedures:
Study consisted pre/post surveys and training sessions. The training sessions
were intended to develop iPad skills and use certain workflow, note-taking,
calendar, productivity, file-sharing, remote-desktop, presentation, and screensharing applications covered specifically from a principals perspective.

Data Collection Methods/Data Source:

This study was conducted by using pre-survey, training sessions and a postsurvey.
Data Analysis:
Survey instruments included multiple choice and Likert-type scale items. The
survey responses were reported as frequencies. In addition, paired sample t-test
data analysis was conducted to understand the differences in the responses
between the pre- and post-surveys. A one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA)
test was conducted to see whether there were any differences in school
administrators responses by gender, age, years of experience in school
administration and education, highest degree attained, school classification, and
school size. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software was
used to conduct the data analysis.

RESULTS
Findings or Results (or main points of the article):

The data analysis of this study is categorized into five main groups.
1. Analysis of demographic and contextual data
2. Impacts of the training process on school administrators use of iPad and iPad
applications
3. Impacts of the training process on school administrators beliefs regarding how
teachers should use iPads in the classroom
4. Differences in participants responses by their demographic and contextual
data
5. Evaluation of training process
According to the data, participants were young administrators in various K-12
schools. All participants owned an Ipad. Most of them owned a smartphone. Most
of them were K-12 administrators. About half of them held a masters degree.
68% of participants rated themselves as intermediate Ipad users before the
trainings and after the training this went up to 80%
Also, after trainings, more participants started using applications in productivity
and tools.
DISCUSSIONS
Conclusions/Implications (for your profession):

The end results show that after proper training, administrators were using their
Ipads more often in a more effective and productive way. Their attitude towards

Ipad usability in classrooms has positively changed.

REFLECTIONS
Students Reflections (changes to your understanding; implications for your
school/work):
This study has strengthened my ideas about how ipads can and should be used
classrooms. Furthermore, I have learned that iPads can be used for effective and
organized completion of administrative tasks if necessary training is provided. Without a
doubt, this will increase the visibility of an administrator, with the mobility and
touchscreen features of the iPads being utilized in the school.
Ipad and smartphone applications have an increasing impact, improving the overall
quality of our lives. This trend should be reflected in education in order to connect with
the changing minds of our young generations and prepare them for a better future.
