AE STUDENT CLASSIFICATIONS
100 Level Students- Students on this level lack the basic skills and must gain the basic math and reading skills to
advance.
101 Level Students- Students on this level have the basic skills, but need improvement on higher level thinking
skills (ex. Inference, drawing conclusions, interpretations)
102 Level Students- Students on this level have the basic skills and have a general grasp of higher level thinking
skills. These students are preparing to take the GED test in Math, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science.
U18- These students recently left their high schools and are enrolled in GED courses. U18 students do not take 100,
101, and 102 courses with anyone over the age of 18.
Apex- These students recently left their high school and are earning a high school diploma via online courses. This
program is only for students ages 18 and under.
Placement in 100, 101, and 102 level courses are determined by a math and reading TABE pretest that is given at
the time of enrollment.
Students are able to move up in classification level by TABE post testing. Students must answer 75% of the
questions correctly to move up in classification. Students are eligible for a post test after completing 40 hours of
class time.

Adult education is funded based on how many students make their gain. The school
board want to see students make a gain from their TABE pre-test to their post test.
For example, if a student gets 50% of the questions right on the pre test, the board
is looking for that student to gain higher than the initial 50% on the post test.
