What is Streams Health Check Script?
Streams Health Check Script is a sql file that contains a set of queries and anonymous blocks that obtain current information about Streams components in the database where it is executed. Streams HC does not alter or changes Streams configuration. Streams HC script can be downloaded from My Oracle Support Doc ID 273674.1 There is one specific Streams HC for every specific release. Streams HC execution generates an html file that can be reviewed with a browser. Assure to spool the execution. 2012 Oracle Corporation Proprietary and Confidential
Run and Modify Streams HC
Initially Streams HC should be run on all databases conforming streams environment. The Streams HC output can be used to review the current situation or to check how the Streams is flowing by comparing different reports. As it is sql file, you can check the contents of the script and if required customize to adjust your configuration needs. There are some sections/queries that can return a large amount of rows, they can be commented out if required. By default it is executed as sysdba as it checks some memory structures. 2012 Oracle Corporation Proprietary and Confidential
Navigating on Streams HC report
First information to check is about the report itself
Links are generated in the report for a fast navigation. Links are grouped in three groups: Configuration, where we you see definitions or static information. Analysis, where you can see the results of checks that scripts run and some historical information. Statistics, where you can check the statistics for processes that are currently up.

Streams HC Report - Generic
Configuration Database, includes sections about database, instances, NLS database settings, key init.ora parameters.. Queue, allow you to check which is the owner instance (in the case this is a RAC).
Statistics Queue, provides information about the number of messages in the queue and if they have been spilled.

Streams HC Report - Generic
Analysis Notifications, will put a message if there is any issue that may avoid that Streams flows properly. Configuration, will warn if there is any wrong configuration and perform some configuration suggestions that may improve performance. Performance, will write a message if performance threshold have been exceeded. Wait Analysis, will show, per streams component process started, the wait percentage on a specific wait event. The scope of percentage is limited to last 30 minutes. Only process started will be listed.

Streams HC Capture site - Configuration
Section Minimum Archive Log Necessary to Restart Capture will help to identify the achievers that can not be deleted. Applied SCN is the lowest scn of all apply sites. If there is a significant difference between Applied SCN and Last Enqueued SCN, then there is a problem at any apply site. Using capture_scn and information at Registered Log Files for Capture section will help to identify how many achievers still need to be mined. For downstream environments assure that source site archivers are visible on Registered Log Files for Capture section. 2012 Oracle Corporation Proprietary and Confidential

Streams HC Capture site - Statistics
Replication between 11g databases should have CCA enabled. Buffered publishers sections allows to monitor how many messages have been enqueued per CP process. Open Streams Capture transactions is used to monitor potential large/long running transactions. Propagation has two faces Sender on Capture site and Receiver on Receiving site. It is expected to see a buffered propagation and a persistent propagation per propagation enabled. Persistent propagation should have all statistics to 0. 2012 Oracle Corporation Proprietary and Confidential

Streams HC Apply site - Configuration
On Apply Tag column you can verify if the tag that is being used is correct. In this section you can also verify positive and negative rulesets used by apply. You should consider removing the positive ruleset if the apply will unconditionally apply all the changes that receive. The column applied_message_number on Apply progress section, is the source scn of last message that has been effectively applied or apply spilled. Propagation configuration is only applicable on sending site, not receiving site.

Streams HC Apply site - Statistics
There are separate statistics for propagation receiver, apply reader, apply coordinator and apply server. It is not desirable to see entries on Apply spilled transactions at apply reader statistics section. If so, an action must be executed to avoid them. On apply server statistics, we can see the waits that every apply server has had and what is the current transaction that the apply server is applying. Open Streams Apply Transactions, lists the transactions that all apply processes are managing. The apply error queue lists failed transactions in the order that they must be solved to avoid snowballs. 2012 Oracle Corporation Proprietary and Confidential
