Aging and Down Syndrome Research Study

Sanders-Brown Center on Aging
University of Kentucky
Lexington, KY

Who are we asking to parDcipate?

Persons with Down syndrome
age 25 and older and their
family member or caregiver.

We would like to recruit
80-100 people (we have
over 40 so far!)

We see everyone once a year

Assessment System II

Why are we doing brain imaging?

We can measure connections

in the brain by MRI

What we have learned so far from

our study

Our research parDcipants are

amazing!!

SophisDcated MRI imaging

methods allow us to examine the
connecDvity of the brain

Brain connecDons are changed in persons

with Down syndrome

Blue: Reduced integrity of nondemented adults with DS vs non-DS controls.

Green: Reduced integrity in demented adults with DS vs nondemented adults with DS
Red: Reduced integrity in adults with DS that correlates with the performance in a cognitive task 2014
