regulated carriers must follow all requirements set out in the Drivers Hours of Service
Regulation (AR317/2002).

In the Alberta hours of service regulations, on-duty time means the period that
begins when a driver begins work or is required by the motor carrier to be available to

engaged, travelling as a passenger to a work assignment when the driver has
not been off-duty for at least 8 consecutive hours immediately prior to departure;

driver is operating or other unplanned event.

Logs are to be turned in daily in your trip envelope.
A driver whose logs are more than one (1) week behind will be placed on nondriving status until all logs are brought current.

Consequences of repetitive log violations

A log violation warning will be sent monthly listing incidents that violate this process.
Chronic log violations cannot be tolerated.
Upon receipt of three violation warnings, the driver must personally appear before
the safety coordinator to discuss the matter.
Upon receipt of five violation warnings, the driver will be placed on six month
probation and must attend the log training and take a test.

the vehicle cannot be fixed on the road, please call the assigned towing company
number and take the truck to the nearest assigned mechanic. You know your
equipment well ... So please share your knowledge with the shop.
Please always turn your vehicles off when you are not in them. This reduced idling,
using top gear as much as possible, using cruise control, and staying within the green

Company philosophy
Communication is key!
One of the advantages of being a small company is the sense of camaraderie
experienced by our employees. We have a flat organizational structure where you can
get your voice heard easily and efficiently. The best part we want to hear from you!
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to consult with your
supervisor or manager. Your co-workers are a critical part of the team and they can
provide you with valuable information if you are ever in doubt; all you have to do is ask.
Always treat your coworkers and superiors with respect and kindness and expect to be
treated the same way.
We want your experience at Yoruba Trucking to be fulfilling and productive, so if you
ever have any suggestions, we are pleased to hear them as well. Remember, the only
dumb questions are the ones left unasked.

Late deliveries
Our company prides itself on being a reliable provider of delivery services in Alberta.
We transport many edible goods, as well as medications, in which case timeliness is
essential. Our customers have trusted us with the task to deliver fresh products. As a
result, their business, as well as ours, heavily depends on your performance.
Failure to deliver such products on the scheduled date might result on a complete
reimbursement of the cost of the goods from our company to the client. Hence,
inexcusable and/or repetitive late deliveries will result in disciplinary action, in addition
to the driver covering some or all the expenses resulting for the loss of such products.
Always call your supervisor and the customer if you will are not able to deliver on the
scheduled date, and make arrangements for an alternative date at the convenience
of the company and the clients.

The customer is always right

Please treat the customer as you would like to be treated yourself, showing courtesy
and professionalism at all times. Remember, it is best to act under the motto that, "the
customer is always right".

12

If you ever have a problem with a customer, refrain from arguing with him or her
refer to your customer service skills and address the customer with diplomacy and
respect. Always let your supervisor know of any issues with customers and they will
address it appropriately.

Safety at all costs!!

We care about you as a member of the Yoruba family and we care about the
public's safety as well, so please:
Take responsibility in being rested before trip.
Take responsibility to check your vehicle and equipment.
Drive with the safety of yourself and others in mind.
If you get too sleepy to drive: stop!!!
Drive within the speed limit and adjust your speed down for weather or road
conditions such as rain, ice, snow, fog, or construction.
Always check around your equipment completely and/or seek assistance
prior to backing.
Never follow too closely: remember, the truck, trailer and load will take an
extra distance to stop!
Refer back to the safety and maintenance program if you have any doubts.

In summary, our company places safety above all! No load is worth your placing
yourself or anyone else at risk. So please, please, always drive defensively, wisely, and
safely. We need you safe and sound

Your input is valued

Again, feel free to make suggestions, observations, comments, compliments, etc. to
management. We value your opinion and want to know of areas we can improve
upon.
Drop comments, either with or without your name, on abuses that you see or know.
This is your company too and these abuses directly affect our profitability.

We must operate efficiently

At Yoruba Trucking we strive to be as efficient as possible in our day-to-day
operations, putting a lot of focus on our consumption of fuel. Our goal is to gear

13

towards a more environmentally friendly and sustainable mindset that sets the
precedent for other companies in the transportation industry to do the same.
Here is how you can do your part to raise your fuel efficiency by:
Lowering speed of tractor
Using cruise control
Minimizing idle time
Progressive shifting
Using high gear earlier

Purchases

Pump fuel at the most economical (as possible) places

Negotiate tire and repair purchases to avoid overcharging
Get your truck washed at designated places
Check for needed repairs before leaving during your pre-trip as road repairs
are much more expensive than at a trucks yard.

Company Policies and guidelines

Respecting fellow employees

All employees should display respect for other employees. If you have a
disagreement with another employee we recommend you talk with him or her to find
common ground and areas you agree upon. At Yoruba we want to give you the liberty
of being able to implement your problem-solving skills, and find ways in which both of
you are benefited and treated fairly.
However, we strongly recommend to immediately notify your supervisor of any
misunderstandings that occur with your coworkers as soon as the incident occurs,
regardless of whether you want intervention from management or to talk to your
coworker yourself. Even if intervention of management is not required, it is imperative
that management is aware of how employee relationships are developing.
Remember you are all part of a team, and collaboration is a crucial aspect to
ensure the efficiency of your work.

14

If you have any disagreements with anyone at a customer's site, report it to your
supervisors at Yoruba and we will handle it appropriately. Never, never argue or fight at
a customer's site.
