People often ask me the question What is your middle name?. They often
notice it and wonders how it was possible. Having a single parent is the story.
Michael Angelo was the first name given to me by my parents. The name similar to
the famous artist of Renaissance Michelangelo and may be referred to as St. Michael
the Archangel. My parents told me that they have gotten my first name from the
famous song Portrait of my Love by Matt Monro which is a love song they have
heard on the radio. They were also saying that their initials perfectly fits with the
name Manolito was the first name of my father and Arlene was my mothers which
led to the initials of my nickname M.A..
Sarabia was my Mothers surname and I am using it because my mother is a
single parent and she is not married with my father. It is written in our law today
that a child may bear his/her fathers surname even when their parents are not
married but then my mother has filed a case in the court to change my surname
into Sarabia from Manalo since she singlehandedly raised us and doesnt get any
support to my father and my father agrees to it that our surnames to be changed.
My friends often call me Mike as it is easier to pronounce than Michael. I love
my name as I love my family and myself. I am proud of my name and my mothers
surname for she has been both a mother and father to me. My name that would
soon become a Foreign Service officer or a honorable lawyer and a surname that I
will be ready to give to my forever.
