FBLA

FBLA is the largest and oldest student organization


oriented around business in the world
FBLA was started in 1937 by Dr. Hamden L. Forkner
and first charted in 1942 Johnson City, Tennessee

What is
FBLA?

The organization consists of over 6, 462 chapters in 9


countries and half a million students
FBLA offers students interested in business the
opportunity to explore what opportunities there are
through meetings, trips, scholarships, projects, and
much more!
FBLA promotes these opportunities through social,
professional, and community service activities in
order to promote Education, Service, and Progress

FBLA accomplishes its mission of promoting


education, progress, and service through its nine
goals
- Promote competent, aggressive business leaders
- Understand American business enterprise
- Establish career goals

Anyone in 9th 12th grade can join FBLA at the


beginning of each school year
First year members must be currently enrolled in a
business class
All returning members must have had at least one
business class

How to Join

To join all you have to do is go to Ms. Mills, the


Altavista FBLA advisor, or any of the officers and ask
to become a member
Dues are $15 and are due in October, although if
paying dues is an issue please see Ms. Mills

Each year members currently enrolled in a business


class are given the opportunity to compete in
regional, state, and national competitions
Members have the opportunity to win at the regional,
state, and national competition level

Competition

The regional competition is held at Longwood


University in early March, winners from this
competition move onto the state level
The state competition is held in April of each year in
Reston, VA with the top two moving onto the national
completion
Nationals are held in different cities throughout the
country in June of each year

Community Service Award


This award is given after reaching each level of hours of community
service. They are accumulative throughout your FBLA career
CSA Community (50 hours)
CSA Service (200 hours)
CSA Accomplishment (500 hours)
Business Achievement Award

Awards

There are four parts to the BAA with each part adding onto the one
before it. The BAA process consists of completing a number of
chosen and required activities in Education, Progress, and Service.
The BAA levels are each given a pin and awarded at the local, state,
and national conference depending on the level

Does

In our local chapter, we engage in many different


activities with affiliations to FBLA, the community,
and the school
We attend the fall officer conference and the spring
conference held at Longwood University each year as
well as the state conference in Reston
Within the community we participate in different
service projects including: Christmas Food Drive, Town
Clean-Up Day, and Project ASK
In the school we participate by hosting the Talent
Show

FBLA takes part in many different service projects to


help the community, school, and VA FBLA
Each year we take part in the state project, Project
ASK

Service
Projects

Project ASK is a non-profit organization that helps


children diagnosed with cancer financially, socially,
and in researching
Projects include:

Scarecrow Walk
Christmas Variety Show
Town Clean-Up Day
Project ASK
