Portland Russell Plan for Water Company- Russell Choice Grant idea
Mayor Fisher and staft:
The Portland Business Association and Concerned Area Russell Residents would like the opourtunity to discuss,
relocation of the Louisville Water Company General Office and Meeter Building into or near the effected area
of the Choice Neighborhood’s process in the Russell area. While we do not have the figures at hand as to the
costs we would like the opourtunity to work with the administration to reuse the structures within the
redevelopment area or nearby.
Our idea is to take the value of these structures and the investment in them and incorporate these as
reconstructed structures in the Russell Portland area and possibly use towards a local match in the Russell
Choice project. aside from the Beecher Terrace area and the Mud Lot area we have noted several land bank lots,
on Market Street where replacement could occur and would tie quite nicely with the Food Hub, Querbacker
House Restoration, Beecher Terrace Choice and Warehouse areas under development by Gill Holland and
others in the Shippingport Portland area.
‘The land bank lots at 1718-1721 West Market are in the same block of the Hub store where Meteo dollars have
been awarded. and the lot at 1821 Market is in the area as well
The disassemble and storage of these buildings and reuse in the western portion of our city would be of
iremendous win win for us all. Please allow us time for thes
We would like to convene a meeting with developers including Bill Whallen, Gill Holland and Dr Mark
Wright, Metro Staff, Sam Watkins One West and others to further explore these options
We have set up an account to begin fund-raising to match metro dollars with the L&N Federal Credit Union
entitled Louisville Preservation At Work. This along with the appeal to our citizens to help with the cause to
relocate the structures to a much needed area of our city which since 2004 lost 13 structures in a three block
area on West Market Street to neglect and fire,
