The document proposes an experiment to investigate Faraday's law and Lenz's law of electromagnetic induction. It involves changing variables in a transformer circuit, such as the number of turns or magnets passed through it, to measure their effect on the induced electromotive force. Multiple transformers could be stacked to study Lenz's law and how induced currents create opposing forces. A literature review, equipment list, timeline, and appendices would also be included in the full proposal.

Title: Electromagnetic induction; investigating Faradays law and Lenzs
law. Formula for Entire Experiment :
=N
That is e.m.f = -Number of turns of transformer (delta flux/delta time)
Aim: Saagar Basic goal: Change the number of turns in the transformer (N) Saagar Include: method, what we will measure and control (i.e. independent, dependant and controlled variables) and how we will then analyse the results and compare them with the results predicted by the formula. Include space for errors also. Standard goal: Change the number of rare earth magnets dropped through each time (i.e. change the magnetic flux density B where =BA ) Then change the velocity and hence t by changing the height the magnets are dropped from relative to the position of the transformer. (relevant formulae include equations of rectilinear motion) Could also get current and thus measure Power (P=VI) Elliott Include: method, what we will measure and control (i.e. independent, dependant and controlled variables) and how we will then analyse the results and compare them with the results predicted by the formula. Include space for errors also. Extended goal: Investigate Lenzs law. Stack multiple transformers on top of each other, hook each up to a voltmeter and computer. Analyse the change in voltage as the magnets fall through. Use slow motion camera frame by frame to analyse change in speed. Use this to work out the opposing force created and thus experienced. Hong Hua This method can be less realistic but still must be ultimately plausible. Outline clearly how we could do the experiment. Literature review: See lab manual for explanation of what to write.
