Waste (Textile forms) is all fiber, yarn and tow material rejected as non-standard during the fiber manufacturing process. This material usually
requires special handling and/or processing to be usable. Not included are non-fibrous by-products such as those which are best suited
for grinding and/or melting to recycle.
Waste (NON-Textile forms) consists of quantities (a) used, or sold to other producers, for melting and re-extrusion - such sales are not reported
to us because the fiber subsequently made from the waste is reported by the extruder; (b) sold to plastics industry, for wire covering, etc.;
and (c ) completely discarded as unusable. All three types of waste are excluded here.
Exports -Fibers shipped to any destination outside the U.S. are reported to the Bureau by producers. Actual waste exports are much larger as they
are handled by third parties and are accurately reported by the Census.
