HCS 2010

This first release of HCS 2010 includes updated modules to implement the new procedures for Signalized
Intersections, Roundabouts, Basic Freeway Segments, Freeway Weaving Segments, Freeway Merge &
Diverge Segments, Two-Lane Highways and Multilane Highways.
Major overhauls to the modules for Roundabouts and Weaving provide for the major changes in these
methodologies while retaining the traditional HCS look and feel.
Quick Animation using CORSIM for HCS (now built in) provides this feature for the Signals,
Roundabouts, Freeways, Weaving and Ramps modules within HCS 2010.
Signals
A completely redesigned Signals screen includes the split screen has been organized to permit the most
common data entry on one view without having to scroll, while providing for detailed data options below
and completely redesigned dynamic reports that can be docked below or to the right for wide screens.
To expand features for more efficient and more intuitive data coding, McTrans has added a more
comprehensive preliminary screen (Quick Entry) to establish a set of data values to begin an analysis.
Users can even design their own set of customized initial values and settings.
A new graphical tool (Quick Phases) provides for entering NEMA Phasing data with a companion
Sequential Phasing graphic to help in this transition. The lane configuration tool (Quick Lanes) has been
retained as it functioned in HCS2000 and HCS+. Quick Optimization using TRANSYT-7F will optimize
cycle length and splits for Signals (and offsets for Streets later).
Coming
A new Streets program will combine the Signalized Intersections, Urban Streets Segments, Urban Streets
Facilities and Interchange Ramp Terminals procedures and is planned for the first update later this year.
Updated modules for Two-Way Stop Control (to add six-lane major streets), All-Way Stop Control (to
add three-lane approaches), Interchange Ramp Terminals (to incorporate the new Signals procedures) and
Freeway Facilities (to implement oversaturated conditions), along with a new module for Off-Street
Pedestrian & Bicycle Facilities, will be included in the update.
