B. Review
-

Who can give me a short recall about the

lesson last meeting?

The lesson was all about the vocal and

instrumental music of India.

Very Good! What are the characteristics of

Indian Traditional Music?

It is divided into two: Carnatic and Hindustani

music which have developed over many
centuries.

What are some popular instruments of India

use in traditional music?

There are veena, mridangam, ghatam, table,

sitar and sarangi which are classified into five
such as ghan, avanaddh, sushir, tat and vitat.

What do you call the most important element

used in Indian Music?

Rhythm plays an importan role in Indian

Music.Tala is the common Indian system of
rhythm.

Very good. In addition, Indian Music is used

for its liturgical importance: sung to worship

their God.

C. Motivation
-

Now class, Let us watch this video

performance. (The teacher will play vocal
music of Israel)

(Students are listening and watching)

Did you enjoy watching?

Yes.

What can you say to the video?

The girl performed beautifully. She is a singer

from Israel.

What do you think is the message of the

song?

The message of the song is all about love.

Why do you say so?

Even though, she is singing in different

language, I can feel the emotion of the music.

Very Good! Music is our universal language.

Even though we have different races, we can
communicate to them through music.

Do you want to explore other music f our

adjacent countries?

Yes, Sir!

There are two vocal styles in singing: the

Ghazal and Qawwali.

Ghazal is a traditional expression of love,

separation and loneliness.
It is considered by many to be one of the
principal poetic forms in the Persian
civilization and can be sung both by men and

D. Lesson Proper
-

Very Good! After you listened to the music,

youve got the idea of our lesson today: The
Music of Pakistan and Israel.

We already know the characteristics of music

of South India. Today, we will identify the
instrumental and vocal music used by
countries in Central Asia and Western Asia.

Pakistan is a representative country in Central

Asia. Pakistan is known for its unique vocals.
What are the vocal music of Pakistan?

What are the characteristics of Ghazal?

women.
-

Very Good! What is Qawwali?

Let us differentiate Ghazal from Qawwali.

(The teacher will play a video clip performing
Ghazal and Qawalli).

What do you observe?

Very good. We know that Pakistan music has

also different instruments used in singing.
What are some significant instruments used in
Pakistan?
(The teacher will show the pictures of these
instruments)

Like in Indian instruments, Pakistan also uses

Tabla in their music.

Now that you know the vocal and instrumental

music of Pakistan, Let us travel to the West
Asia. What is the distinctive characteristics of
Israel Music?

Israeli singers have two divisions of vocal

music. Vocal music are used both devotional
and secular. How will you differentiate them?
Let us go to the Instrumental music of Israel.
What are they?
Israel also uses Lute in their music similar to
the Philippine bandurria. Let us listen to one
music of Israel through the use of bandurria of
the Philippines. What do you observe?

E. Application

It is the devotional music of the Chishti order

It is a vibrant tradition that stretches back

more than 700 years

It is originally performed mainly at Sufi shrines

throughout the subcontinent and gained
mainstream popularity.

(Students are listening)

Ghazal is performed subjectively. It conveys

message to a loved one while Qawalli is a
music for their God. They are using
instruments while performing.

They are table, dholak, rubab and

harmonium.

Harmony is not emphasized but rather

includes tones and rigorous rhythmic
development. Unlike Pakistan and Indian
music, harmony is not important but rather the
melody is more emphasized.

Devotional music is almost entirely vocal

while in secular, instruments and voice are
used.

They are Jewish Lyre, Psalterion and Shofar.

Asia is truly rich in its culture. I realized that

the Philippines has the connection to its
adjacent countries in terms of music and
culture. Eastern countries have the unique
characteristics of music to the Western
countries.

This time, we are going to have an activity.

But before that, what are the standards in
doing a group activity?

We are going to sing Zum Gali Gali. It is a

simple Israeli folk song and we will analyze
the characteristics of music. (The teacher will
sing first and the students will follow)

(The teacher will make variations of the soung

such as he will make the Zum Gali Gali a
round song)

(Class Performance)

Let us clap our hands.

This time, I will let you sing by group. I divided

you into four groups. This will be your
evaluation. I will give you rubrics in our group
activity.

How did you find the song?

Be responsible.
Participate actively.
Avoid unnecessary noise.
Time management.
Work as a group.

(Students are listening, singing and analyzing

the rhythmic pattern)

(Students will analyze its timbre, dynamics,

pitch, rhythm, form, texture, key, time
signature and key signature)

It is very beautiful and fun.

I hope you enjoyed the lesson. We are almost

done. Now its time to share what you have
learned.
Class, what have you learned in todays
lesson?

It was all about Pakistan and Israel Music, the

music of Eastern and Western Asian
countries.

What are the vocal and instrumental music of

Pakistan and Israel?

The vocal music of Pakistan are Ghazal and

Qawwali. Instruments such as table, dholak,
rubab and harmonium are significant to them.
On the other hand, Israel music is used for

F. Generalization
-

both devotional and secular music. Examples

of their instruments are the JewishLyre,
Psalterion and Shofar.

Very Good. Each of the music of Asia is

connected to everyone. They share the same
cultures and traditions. For example, the
Philippines which has their lute is the same as
in Israel. In this scenario, these culture and
music must be preserved because this is our
foundation of peace and unity even if we differ
from tastes and races.

Is there any questions?

Your performance earlier serve as your quiz.
