Frances Power was the daughter of David and Elizabeth Power of Coorheen House of
Loughrea, Co. Galway, with whom Carolan resided at times. Carolan's lyrics say he hopes
to dance at Fanny's wedding, so when O'Sullivan published this melody, he kept this title. It
has been published under the title Mrs. Trench by Bunting in 1840. Fanny married Richard
Trench of Co. Galway in 1732. This tune was played at the Belfast Harp festival in 1792 by
Rose Mooney, the only woman harper there.
