Name: Connor Doyle

Date: 9/25/2014
Lesson Topic: Soccer (Dribbling/Kicking) Grade Level: 5th Grade
Resources: Sport lead up games book
Equipment Needed: 25 foam
balls
Learning Goals (2-3 goals):
1. The students will be able to dribble around the basketball
court while keeping the ball close and in their possession.
2. Students will be in a line sitting down during instruction,
and on their own during activity.
NASPE Standards Addressed:
1. Standard 1
2. Standard 2
3. Standard 3
4. Standard 4
5. Standard 5
Warm-up/Intro Activity: The class will come in and immediately
grab their pedometers. They will then begin to run laps around
the gym for a minute or two. The intro activity they will be
playing is a variation of keep away.
Time: 5-10 minutes
Class Organization: After the time is up, I will call them in and
have them sit on the red line. Once they are all seated I will
proceed to explain the intro activity of keep away. I will ask for
volunteer to help demonstrate. I will then number them off by
1s and 2s to divide them up and have them grab a ball after
they receive a number. Then we are ready to start the activity.
Description of Activity: The activity is a simple game of keep
away. The basketball court will be split in half. The black line of
the court will be the boundaries. Students will dribble around
the court trying to knock each others ball out of the
boundaries. If they successfully do so, the student whose ball
got knocked out will just switch to the other half of the court
and join there half. This will allow for maximum participation,
and nobody will be left out. Every so often I will stop the
music, and give them a 3, 2, 1 freeze countdown. When they
hear this they need to stop where they are and place their ball
between their feet.
Differentiation Strategies: For students struggling, I will give them
extra guidance and enforce them to dribble slower and work
more on the mechanics.
Transition: At the end of the activity I will give the 3, 2, 1 freeze
countdown over the microphone and students will place the
ball in between their feet. From here I will instruct them to

place the ball on the first step of the stage, and then to sit on
the red line and listen for further directions.

Lesson Focus: Soccer dribbling (Tunnel Tag)

minutes

Time: 10

Class Organization: Students will be sitting on the red line as I

get ready to explain the next activity. At this time I will explain
our next activity which is tunnel tag. I will ask for a couple of
volunteers to demonstrate the activity with me. After I am
done explaining I will then call out a few months of the year
and if they have a birthday in one of those months they may
get up to get a ball. I will ask for two or three volunteers to be
taggers and then we will begin the activity.
Cue Words for Skill: Inside of your foot. Keep it close.
Description of Activities: Tunnel Tag is very similar to soccer
maniac, which they are already very familiar with. Students
will all have a foam soccer ball and will be dribbling around the
gym. The taggers will be running around with their soccer ball
in their hand and trying to hit the dribblers ball. If they hit the
dribblers ball, the student must freeze and pick up his/her ball
and hold it on the top of their head. You get back into the
game when a fellow dribbler passes the ball through your legs.
We will stop every few minutes to have new taggers. The same
3, 2, 1 freeze countdown will be used.
Differentiation Strategies: Again, here I will give more guidance to
those who need it. Have them slow down with their dribbling
and use the inside of their foot more.
Transition: I will give them their 3, 2, 1 freeze countdown.
Students will place the ball between their legs and listen for
directions. I will have them place their ball on the first step
and to return to the red line and to have a seat. From here I
will explain our game we will be playing up until we end class.

Culminating Activity: 4 Corners

Time: 10-12 Minutes
Class Organization: Students will be sitting on the red line as I
give instruction. At this time I will ask for three volunteers to
help demonstrate our next game, 4 Corners. After the game
has been explained, I will number them off and direct them to
their corner by the color of the cones set up. Once they are all
in place, I will throw out 8-10 soccer balls for them to use.
Description of Activity: The students will be divided into 4
different quadrants. The basketball court will be divided up
equally. In the corner of each quadrant will be the funky
moves cones as well as other pins that the students will be
aiming for. Students in the quadrant diagonal from their own
will be on the same team, but must remain in their quadrant.
The object of the game is to kick the ball at the cones of the
teams touching your quadrant. For example; if I am on team
number one, we are trying to score on team numbers two and
four. Team three is trying to do the same thing; their total
points will be added together. 1 goalie per team will be used.
1

Differentiation Strategies: Same as before, I will stress using the

inside of their feet, as well as trying to kick more for accuracy
and not power.
Transition: I will give them the usual 3, 2, 1 freeze countdown,
anyone with a ball will place it in-between their feet. They will
say, Good game, to one another and check their pedometers
for how many steps they achieved. They will then be instructed
to stand on the black line, and move onto their next class.
Assessment (align with Learning Goals):
1. My observation
2. Pedometers
