The Prehistoric

Biface/ Hand Axe

Ben Vogel

Inventors Thought
The inventor most likely needed a way to

chop wood or hunt animals effectively, so

he decided to flake a stone until it was
pointed at one end like a spear head.

Why was it invented?

The biface was most likely invented as a way to

hunt animals, dig for resources, chop wood or

bark, or to throw at animals in the form of
spears.
The tool was most likely used first as an axe or

as a tool for physical activity. It then developed

or was used as a hammer, cutter, scraper, or
other multi tool.

Evolution

The biface is the blueprint

for many tools and
weapons used today such
as the hand axe, spear, and
spade.
