Course Description
Students will explore the VISUAL
ARTS through looking at the
ELEMENTS OF ART. Visual Art is a form
of communication in much the same way
that writing is a language. Instead of
consisting of words, sentences, etc., the
language of art is comprised of line,
shape, form, colour, texture, and
space.
Grade 10 Art is a continuation
of this exploration, with larger,
more long-term projects

Grade 9 Art- Course Description

In grade 9 Visual Arts, students explore the VISUAL ARTS through
looking at the ELEMENTS OF ART. Visual Art is a form of communication in
much the same way that writing is a language. Instead of consisting of
words, sentences, etc., the language of art is comprised of line, shape,
form, colour, texture, and space.
Grade 9 Visual Arts is very much a hands-on course. There is little
homework, few tests, and no final exam. The passing grade is 60% and it is
a pre-requisite for all other high school art courses. The course has been
designed to be accessible to all students, regardless of their ability or
interest in art. As well, it offers ample enrichment opportunities for selfmotivated students who have a particular interest in this area.
Materials
-pencils (HB or _B) ASAP (4B and 6B available from art department for $1
each)
-eraser (white vinyl or gum is best) ASAP
-black fine or ultra-fine marker (Sharpie brand available from art
department for $1)
-thicker black sharpie
-coloured pencils
