Dr.

Karp discusses in his argument his research into the culture of the Tertian village
and why his findings are more accurate as compared to the research done by Dr.
Field. The observations made by Dr. Field was the Tertian children will raised by the
entire village instead of the biological parents. The children were more influenced
by the adults of the village as compared to their parents, according to Dr. Field.
However, Dr. Karp believes that Dr. Fields observations are incorrect based on his
observations in recent interviews with the tertian children.
It can be inferred from Dr. Karps statement that he believes the children would talk
more about their parents if they were raised by the biological parents. This is an
incorrect assumption because one of the reasons the children talk about their
parents, is if they look up to them. As a natural response, children tend to look up to
their parents from an early age. This assumption is invalid, and hence the argument
does not stand true.
Additionally, Dr. Karp claims that his interview centered research is more accurate
based on his findings. Even if his research were correct, a single interview centered
research can not debunk the entire concept of observation-centered research.
Firstly, an observation-centered research will be more accurate since observations
are tracked, as opposed to interviews wherein the subjects will possibly talk about
the most recent conversation they have had. Secondly, it is highly probable if a
style of research works on one culture does not imply that it will work on every
island culture in the world.
