Mrs. Dang, Room 106

Dear Parent or Guardian,
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself again and express my
excitement about working with your child this year. I love teaching second
grade because I care deeply about each of my students. I believe students can
grow and develop by hands on activities and thoughtful discussion in class. The
main goal of the year is to help your child grow to his or her maximum potential.
Over the course of this year, we will have a lot of fun learning.
Additional information about the class is provided in the syllabus attached to this
page. Please read that syllabus and discuss it with your child. It is important that
you and your child understand the importance of our classroom procedures
and expectations.
Also note that if you ever have any comments, questions or concerns, I am
available for phone calls and meetings (by appointment please) each day
before and after school. To schedule a meeting, you may contact me via
jdang@musd.org.
I am excited about working with your child. I welcome questions or comments,
and am looking forward to a great year!
Thank you,
Mrs. Dang
Second Grade Teacher

SECOND GRADE WITH MRS. DANG
Achieving our classroom goal (outlined below) will require the cooperation of parents/
guardians, students, and teachers.
CLASSROOM GOAL
I believe all students have the ability to shape their own lives and society in positive ways.
My goal this year is to have all students recognize their power and use that power to
improve themselves and their communities. In order to achieve this goal, we will need
supplies, organization, and procedures. These are outlined below.
COMMUNICATION
The best way to communicate with me is send me an email. I check my email daily. The
best time to reach my by phone is Monday thru Friday 3:00P.M. to 5:30P.M. Any time after
that, please leave a message for me. I am also available before or after school via
appointment. Feel free to communicate with me about your child. An open line of
communication is important for your childs success.
NECESSARY SUPPLIES
These items will be provided for students in the beginning of the year, but will need
replenishing throughout the year due to daily use. If you would like to donate the following
to the class, it would be greatly appreciated.
Two-sided pocket folders
Ziploc Bags in gallon, quart, or
Ream of white copy paper
snack size
Package of lined binder paper
Roll of paper towels
Box of tissues
Laminating pouches in 3mil or 5 mil
CLASS ORGANIZATION
In the first few weeks, students will learn where all their classroom belongings and personal
belongings go to help keep the classroom tidy. Students will keep all classwork in folders,
which will be stored in their table baskets. Textbooks will be kept in each students
numbered cubby. Backpacks will be hung on wall hooks. Any school appropriate personal
belongings will be kept in larger cubbies in the back of the classroom.
RULES
All Weller Elementary School rules will apply in our classroom. Students are also asked to:
1. Work as a team
4. Be respectful to everyone
2. Be responsible
5. Be kind and helpful
3. Listen to others
6. Do your best
CLASSROOM CULTURE
We will work hard to have a positive classroom culture, and to celebrate that culture in
many ways (positive phone calls, increased privileges, etc.). While in class, students are
expected to respect each other and the classroom. Students are expected to follow rules
and procedures set forth in the classroom and on school grounds. All expectations will be
explained to students on the first day/week of school, as well as reminders throughout the
year. These expectations will be reinforced throughout the school year. Any undesirable
behavior or conduct will result in a Stop and Think sheet or equal consequence. If
inappropriate behavior continues the following may occur a letter home, visit to the
Principals office, sitting out during recess, or a parent/teacher meeting.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Students will earn Gold Tags for good behavior, great choices, a positive attitude, kinds
words, participation, etc. to be used towards Fun Friday centers every week. The student
with the most gold tags chooses their center first, followed by the next student, and so on.
Students learn very quickly that earning gold tags has its rewards. Students are motivated to
earn as many as they can. It becomes less about Fun Friday and more about becoming the
best citizen that they can be. Students strive to earn more than they did the previous week.
PROCEDURES
At the beginning of class:
Take out homework folder and place in cubby.
Put backpacks, jackets, etc. away.
Get math book.
During class:
Sharpen your pencil when necessary. Ask the Pencil Sharpener to do this.
Bathroom/water/nurse/locker policy: Use hand signals to indicate what is needed.
No one will be excused during the first or last 10 minutes of class or during certain
activities.
At the end of class:
Pack up your belongings only after you have been asked to do so.
Clean the area around your desk before you leave.
Students leave when they are dismissed from class.
HOMEWORK
Homework is collected every two weeks on Friday. Please ensure all homework is
completed during the allotted time. Students who do not complete the homework will need
to complete it during recess and/or over the weekend and returned the following Monday
(or school day). If homework cannot be completed, please write a note or contact me via
email or phone.
HOMEWORK SUPPLIES
Please try to ensure that your student has necessary materials they need to complete their
homework each night. Students may borrow these supplies from our classroom if they are
unavailable at home.
LATE WORK
It is the responsibility of the student to make sure homework or any other assignments are
turned in on time. Consistent late work will result in time owed to teacher and/or
conversation with teacher.
ATTENDANCE/ABSENCES
When your student is in class before the final bell rings in the morning, they are on time.
Please make sure your student is at school and in my class well before that time to settle in.
Any time after the final bell at 8:00 A.M., your student will be marked as tardy.
It is important to limit the time missed from class. Please try to schedule doctor or any other
appointments outside of school hours. The time missed from school will greatly impact your
students learning. I understand there are certain circumstances that require your student to
miss school. If your student is absent, it is their responsibility to ask for the work missed. If your

student is absent on a Monday, they have missed the spelling pre-test and are responsible
for making up the pre-test during their recess time. Any assignments given during their
absence will be made up as homework, during recess, or the weekend. If you know your
students will be gone for an extended length of time, please speak with the school and
myself to arrange the appropriate and necessary needs.

high. I will demand your best at all times. I will listen to you. I ask that you bring questions,
