On August 8 2014 the Noria-Gaabariyya near al Nori Mosque had

been burned down by unknown group, Hama Antiquities report mentioned
that the fire burned the upper part of the new wooden wheel, while the
stone base remained intact.
It worth to mention that Hama contained more than 17 of the waterwheels
built to take water from the Orontes River and use it to irrigate nearby
fields. The Norias were submitted as a tentative World Heritage Site of
UNESCO on the criteria (I VI) that represent a masterpiece of human
creative genius and an outstanding example of a type of technology, which
illustrates a significant stage in human history through creating device to
raise water.
However, a mosaic found at Apamea dating to 469 CE pictures a Noria
very similar to those at Hama. The mosaic is now presented in Hama
National Museum.
