ThefollowinginformationhasbeencompiledbytheP.E.stafftohelpyoubetterunderstandprocedures
andpoliciesthatyouareexpectedtofollowasaP.E.studentatHighlandParkthisyear.

PHILOSOPHY:

Physicaleducationisimportant!Itisjustasimportantasanyothersubjectwithwhichyouwillbe
involved.Ahealthy,activebodycontributestoahealthy,activemind.Theycannotbeseparated.
Researchshowsthatpeoplewhoexerciseregularlyaresicklessoften,sleepbetter,aremoreproductive
atworkandschool,andhavehigherselfesteemthanthosewhodont.

PhysicalEducationandcompetitiveathleticsaretwodifferentareas.Inaphysicaleducationclassyou
willbeintroducedtomanyactivitiesthatwillhelpkeepyoufitforlife.Inaddition,physicaleducation
teacheseachindividualorganization,responsibility,cooperation,sportsmanship,andacceptanceof
othersandtheiruniqueabilities.

POLICIES:

l.Whatyouneedtoknowaboutlocks.

A.Youwillbeissuedalockatthebeginningoftheyear.Ifyouloseyourlock,tellyour
teacher,orlockerroomteacherimmediately.Ifweareunabletofindit,youmustpay$8.00for
anewone.Yourlockmustbereturnedattheendoftheschoolyear.

A.TheP.E.staffwouldlikeeveryonetobeasactiveastheyphysicallycanbeandunderstandwhenit
isnecessarytoadaptactivitiestomeetthespecialneedsofstudents.Ifparentsorguardiansfeeltheir
childshouldnotparticipateinanyactivitytheymustwriteadailyexplanatorynote.Aphonemessage
beforeclassisacceptablebecausewecantguaranteethatemailswillbereadbeforeclass.Ifstudents
mustbeoutofactivityfor
threedaysorlonger
duetoillnessorinjury,adoctorsnotemustbe
obtainedandgiventotheP.E.teacher.ThisisaBeavertonSchoolDistrictpolicy.

Ifastudentdoesnothaveanoteormessageexcusingthem,theywillbeaskedtodressanddo
whattheycan.
IftheydressforP.E.theywillnotbemarkeddown.

Thefollowingreasonsarenotexcusedabsences:
gamethatnight,sorefrompracticethenight
before,notfeelingwell(ifyouareatschool,youarewellenoughtoparticipate)

IV.Whatyouneedtoknowaboutstudentexpectationsandsafety.

A. Youmustbeinthelockerroomontimeandremainseateduntilateacherdismissesyouto
gotoyourgym.Uponenteringthegym,donottouchequipmentunlessinstructedtodoso.

B.Youwillbedismissedbyyourteacherfromyouractivityareatogoto thelocker
room.

C.Yourinstructormustbenotifiedimmediatelywhenthereisanyinjurysustainedinclass.

D.Studentsafetyisessential.Studentsmustthereforerefrainfromdoinganythingthatmight
harmhimself/herself,anotherindividual,orthepropertyoftheschoolorofanother
classmate.Studentsaretorefrainfromthewearingofanyjewelryoraccessoriesthat
couldaffectsafety.

Gumchewingisprohibited.Nofoodordrinksallowedinthegyms.

Icandemonstratewaystoachieveandmaintainahealthenhancinglevelofphysicalfitness.

ALT4VigorousMovement
Icandemonstratemoderatetovigorousmovementinallactivities.

ALT5ClassExpectations
Icandemonstrateclassexpectationsbybeingprepared,followingrules,procedures,directions,and
etiquettewithintheclassroomandlockerroomsetting.
