Tiger Pride Lesson Plan 9/23/15

Teacher: Brydie Pye

Background Information
Date: 9/23/15

School: Cleveland Elementary

Grade Level: 2nd

Lesson Focus: To get the students trusting each

other and comfortable with each other.

# Of students: 20

Equipment and Facilities:

60 bean bags
10 cones
10 blindfolds
30 yarn balls
20 small balls

Safety Considerations:
Students may trip over the equipment when they are
blindfolded in the minefield activity. If they fall over
then I will see if they have badly hurt themselves. If
they have hurt themselves then I will get Brittainy or
one of the helpers to take the child to the cafeteria to
get help.

Lesson Specifics
Behavioral Contingencies:
Previously Learned Skills:
If a student is misbehaving I will give them a
Teamwork
warning. If they continue to misbehave I will sit them Throwing a football, underhand throwing,
out for the next activity. If they return to the next
Skipping, galloping
activity and they are still being disruptive then I will
have them sit out for the rest of the lesson. If theyre
still being distracting while sitting there then Ill
send them to the cafeteria.
Teaching Strategy:
Academic Language:
Cooperative learning I am trying to get the
Minefield, mines, crawl, tag
students to work together as a team and trust each
other. I will try to be encouraging.

Instant Activity:
Stuck in the mud
Today were going to
start with a game called
stuck in the mud. I need
two volunteers to be
taggers? Everyone else
will be running around
trying not to be tagged. If
you are tagged you stand
with your arms and legs
far out like a starfish.
You cant move because
youre stuck in the mud.
Someone who hasnt been
tagged can come and
rescue you though. To
rescue you they have to
crawl between your legs
and then you wont be
stuck in the mud
anymore. The goal of the
game is for the taggers to
have everyone stuck in
the mud. Does everyone
understand?

This is a fun game where

other out.
V. Demonstrate the motor
skills and movement
patterns needed to
perform a variety of
physical activities.

To be able to play this game

students need to be able to
run, dodge and crawl which
are all movement
skills/patterns that are
needed in different types of
physical activities.
VI.

Assess and maintain a

level of physical fitness
to improve health and
performance.
This game is aimed to get the
students moving around and
to keep their fitness levels up

Transition
Water break if needed.
Tell the students they can
get water if they need it,
and then to come and sit
back down in front of
where I am standing.
Set Induction:
Can anyone remember
what we did on Monday?
Well today we are going
to be doing something
similar. We are going to
work on trusting our
classmates.
Purpose:
Trusting our classmates
is important because we
want to know that we can
always rely on them for
their help.
Lesson Core - Task 1:
Minefield
Today for our main
activity we are going to
be in pairs which I will
choose. One person will
be blindfolded and the
other person will be
helping them get across
the minefield. They are
not allowed to verbally
communicate directions.
If the person blindfolded
touches a mine then they
have to go back to the

Start/Stop Signals: If I am trying

to get the students attention I will
loudly say Tiger Pride put your
hands on your head if youre
listening.
Grouping Strategies: I will
separate students from their
friends, and I will put boys and
girls together.

7. Exhibits responsible
personal and social
behavior that respects
self and others.
Part of students trusting
each other is them also
respecting each other.

Cognitive (C): SWBAT find

a way to communicate to
their partner how to get to
the other side of the
minefield without standing
on a mine.
This objective relates to this
task because students need
to think smartly on an
effective way of
communicating to their
partner while also thinking
about which way would be
best to get to the other side

start.

of the mine field.

Teaching Cues for Task 1:
I wont be giving any cues
because I want the students
to figure out different ways
that they could communicate
to their partner on which
direction to go.

Demonstration Plan:
I will pretend that I have
someone in front of me
and that I am
communicating to them
how to avoid the mines.

Questions to Check
Understanding
If we stand on a mine
where do we go? (Back
to the start)
Are we allowed to say the
directions? (No)
Transition: Here the
students are picking up
the equipment. I will be
holding the equipment
bag and be waiting for
them to put it in the bag.
Once they have put all
the equipment away I will
get them to sit down in
front of me and be quiet.
Lesson Core - Task 2:
If the students get
through task 1 faster than
planned then I will have
them to the human knot
activity. This is where
they all stand in a circle
and link hands with
people across the circle
from then. The aim of the

untwisted.
Demonstration Plan:
I wont do a
demonstration because
that would be too
difficult.

each task

Teaching Cues for Task 2:

Talk to each other, listen to
everyones ideas, pay
attention to where everyones
arms are. Take your time.
Common Errors Task 2:
1. Not taking it seriously.
2. Not listening to each
other.

Questions to Check
Understanding
Can you hold hands with
the person right next to
you? (No)
Do you need to listen to
your classmates
opinions? (Yes)
Adaptations
To make it easier I can
give the students tips. To
make it harder I can tell
the students that they will
be timed.

ASSESSMENT TECHNIQUES: I will be assessing the students by seeing how well they get through the tasks. If
they can get their partner to the other side of the minefield in a decent amount of time in task 1 then I consider
that done well. If they dont then thats something they need to work on.
