Parental Involvement Policy

In order to achieve high standards in all areas, the school relies on the full support and cooperation of parents/guardians. Therefore, the development and maintenance of effective
home-school links is essential. The following strategies are used to help promote these links:
The schools website is a valuable source of information and news for
parents/guardians and other interested parties.
The school has compiled a handbook for parents providing general information as
well a number of organisational policies.
The childs Homework Journal and text messages are used as forms of
communication for simple day-to-day matters.
Information letters from the school are sent home frequently and parents/guardians
are advised to check with their child regularly for these. It may be necessary in some
cases to check school bags for communications from the school. These letters can also
be downloaded from the school website.
Formal meetings with parents/guardians are held every year in November.
Parents/guardians are given an opportunity to meet the class teacher individually, at a
mutually convenient time. Parents/guardians who wish to meet the teacher at any
other time are requested to make an appointment. For safety reasons,
parents/guardians are asked not to delay teachers in the morning.
Parents/guardians of children with special educational needs are invited to meet with
the class teacher and resource teacher throughout the year in the preparation and
review of the childs Individual Education Plan (IEP).
An end-of-year school report summarising the childs achievements and progress is
issued to parents/guardians every June.
The school hosts a number of information meetings for parents. They include: an
Accord Meeting, Middle Infant Screening Test (MIST) meetings, an Induction
Meeting for Parents of Junior Infants, and First Communion/Confession and
Confirmation meetings.
Regular newsletters and text messages are sent out during the year to keep
parents/guardians informed of news, issues and developments. The newsletters can be
downloaded from the school website.
Parents are invited to school functions during the year, e.g. refreshments after First
Communion and Confirmation and End-of-Year Awards Ceremony.
Parents are involved in paired reading programmes, the MIST Forward Together
Programme, International Week and Book Week activities.
Parents/guardians can play an active part in contributing to the mission and vision of the
school, and supporting the aims of the school by:

being fair, honest and reasonable in their dealings with the school;
sending their child to school on time every day, unless s/he is sick;
supervising and signing their childs homework;
attending parent/teacher meetings and information meetings; and
following correct procedure in relation to any complaints that may arise.

The Board of Management of Scoil An Chro R Naofa osa is responsible for the
management of the school, under the patronage of the Catholic Archbishop of Dublin, Dr.
Diarmuid Martin and subject to the rules and regulations laid down by the Department of
Education and Science (DES). The current Board of Management was elected in December
2011 for a four year term. The Board consists of two patrons nominees, two elected parent
representatives, one teacher representative and two community representatives co-opted by
the Board. The principal is a de facto member of the Board and has overall responsibility on
behalf of the Board of Management for the day-to-day management of the school.
The Parents Association is a group of parents, affiliated to the National Parents Council
(Primary), which provides a structure through which parents/guardians have an opportunity to
work together for the good of the school. The association meets regularly and gives practical
support to the children and staff. It collects a voluntary donation from parents towards the
school. It also organises fundraising events and provides the catering for school functions.
Through fundraising and the organisation of events, the Parents Association promotes all
areas of school development and plays an invaluable role in developing and maintaining
positive and active partnerships between home and school.
