ASSIGNMENT 3

1. Describe the fundamentals of shaft alignment.

A shaft is a rotating member, usually of circular cross section used to transmit torque and
rotation, to connect other components
alignment is the process to align two or more shafts with each other to within a tolerated margin.
It is an absolute requirement for machinery before the machinery is put in service.

Types Of Misalignment
Parallel / Off-Set Misalignment
Angular Misalignment
Combination Misalignment
2. Demonstrate the use of the reverse dial indicator methods to correct shaft
misalignment.
3. Developed check list drives belt maintenance, symptoms and record
observations for preventive maintenance.
a. Premature belt failure.

Broken belt -Under-designed drive

- Belt rolled or prised onto pulley
Edge cord failure - Pulley misalignment
- Damaged tensile member
