Ourpedagogyisbasedonavarietyofeducationalresearchersandrespected
practitioners.Chiefamongstourbeliefsabouteducationisthatallchildrenaredifferent
andnosinglepedagogywillsuitallchildrenwebelieveinamixedmethodologyin
whichmultiplelearningstylesareincorporatedinourclassroom.Westronglyadhereto
HighPointAcademysmission,whichstatesthatweprovideatraditionalandbalanced
approachtoensurethatstudentsacquiretoolsforanalyticalthinking.

scientificinquiry.

Insocialstudies,studentsshouldtakeacriticalperspectiveonhistoryandthestory
beingtold.Studentsanalyzeprimaryandsecondarysources,andbuildconclusions.
Whileknowledgeofthefactsofhistoryisimportant,wealsoplacedeepvaluein
historicalanalysis.

Inreading,studentsshouldreadwiththepurposeofmakingconnectionsconnections
totheworldaroundthem,toothertextsandtotheirownpersonallives.Strongreaders
contextualizetheirreadingthroughconversations,analysisandwriting.While
comprehensionisimportant,wealsoplacedeepvalueinreadingasamethodof
selfdiscovery.

WhatdoesthislooklikeinWriting?
Writingisthecrosscurricularbindingagentthattiesallofthesubjectstogether.Inhigh
schoolandcollege,studentswillbeexpectedtodemonstratetheirselftaught
knowledgethroughwriting,andthedevelopmentofthatskillmustbeginnow.While
narrativewritingisanimportantskill,wemustbalancethatwiththecollegiatenormof
expositoryexpression.
