In this assignment student will create a letter from a scenario they will be given. This will
be the following scenario:
You are the CEO of a cookie factory. Your business is flourishing but you only have one

cookie but dont have enough funds to do so. It is your job to write a business letter to the
owners of The Christie Cookie to help you with some money so that you can produce this
cookie.

the makers of The Christie Cookie to help them distribute these new cookies. The
students will make up the kind of new cookie they would like to make and sell in their
cookie factory and explain why The Christie Cookie Company should invest. This
assignment is done individually but students are allowed to use their handout on
formatting a business letter if needed. Students can also ask the teacher if they have any
questions. Students may converse on new cookie ideas but not on the letter itself. Their
business letter will consist of all the components of a business letter in block form:

Return Address/ Letterhead

Once the students are finished with their letter they will preview the letter to make sure
their letter is in the correct format. Once the letter is finished they will print the letter and
hand it into the teacher. There will only be one copy of their letter so ensure that the
students understand that they will only print their final copy. The students will need to
proofread and edit on the computer before printing.

Some of these outcomes are easily obtainable through this course and assignment while

others will be more difficult. Integrating the ICT curriculum allows for the teacher to see
how technology affects how we teach.
This assignment will be assessed using a checklist.
The students will need to complete each part of the checklist to receive the marks. Each
component will be worth 1 mark. The Assignment will be worth 16 marks. If a
component on the checklist is not completed they will not be rewarded that mark.
The evaluation for this assignment is not too tricky if the student does not meet the
requirement on the checklist they will not be rewarded the mark. This assignment will not
particularly mark on grammar but the letter needs to make sense. The students will be
able to explore their ideas and be creative when doing the letter. The students need to be
able to demonstrate their skills by creating a business letter in Microsoft Word.
The digital citizenship components that are addressed in this assignment are digital
communication, which is the electronic exchange of information where they can converse
with others to create this fantastic new cookie. Also digital literacy is used, which is the
process of teaching and learning about technology and the use of technology because
students are learning to use the technology to enhance their knowledge that may benefit
them in the work place later in life. Finally the students will use digital rights and
responsibilities in which they have the right to privacy and freedom of speech in their
work.
The Technology used in this assignment is the standard computer and the Microsoft Word
Program. These are the main resources for this course and this assignment. Also the
Information Processing (Distance Learning Options South, Lethbridge Community
College) book will be utilized in this assignment to help show students what the business
letter looks like.
There can be FMNI integration in this assignment because students can use their native
ingredients that they use at home in their new cookie idea. This allows for students who
have different backgrounds to show off their different way of life at home in the
classroom. Since everyone loves cookies the students can share their home recipes in the
classroom.
Some ways that students who need differentiated instruction can be assessed in this
assignment is by allowing them to write at the best of their ability. As long as the teacher
can read and understand what the student is writing, it will be accepted in this
assignment. If students have a physical disability they can easily get assistance from other
classmates or by the teacher. For example if the student cant use one of their arms
because they broke it at soccer last week then the student can use one hand to type or ask
for assistance from the teacher or other classmate.

The resources that are need for this is Microsoft Word and a Computer. I also used the
format from the Distance Learning Options South resource book for the basic format of
the business letter.
