The Beatitudes Project

This project requires you to name and explain each Beatitude statement and find an example of the
Beatitudes in our world today. The Beatitudes are examples for us of how we are called by God to live
the goal of human existence as described in the Catechism of the Catholic Church (#1719). In our
modern world, just like in the time of Jesus, the Beatitudes dont always match up with what is popular
or easy to do. This project asks you to think about how the Beatitudes are, and can be lived today.
Consider the following questions when creating your project:
Do people in todays society show
compassion for one another?

PROJECT ASSIGNMENTS
YOU WILL BE CREATING THE FOLLOWING 3 ITEMS:

What does it mean to be a humanitarian?

How do catholic values help us to be role
models in todays world?

1) A Booklet/PowerPoint/Prezi/ or Video of the 8 Beatitudes

The Booklet/PowerPoint/Prezi/ or video requires one page/slide/frame/ even time spot

per Beatitude statement. On each of those, you must include:
Each of the Beatitudes needs to be clearly stated (written) and identifiable. (see
Matthew 5: 1-12 for a list of the Beatitudes).
At least one image per beatitude (More than one is recommended)
At least one of the following items written out to explain/add to each beatitude:
i. A poem, a prayer, a quote, the beatitude in your own words, lyrics from a
song, and/ or an example of how a person is living the beatitude in their life.

2) A News Story from the last 5 years that represents how someone (not Pope Francis see next
bullet point) in this world is living according to ONE OR MORE of the Beatitudes through his or
her actions. This section of the project will be completed in a regular word document. If you are
having trouble thinking of what news articles to search for think of the people you used for an
example in your beatitudes presentation and search for a news story about one of them.
Follow these steps:

Select an article from a reputable source. Example: CBC news, CTV, Global, Huffington Post,
etc. If you are not sure if you have a good source or not please ask me first before using it.

Copy and paste the article into a Word document and make sure you add the web address
(link) to the news story. IF YOU USE A YOUTUBE VIDEO for your news story, copy and
paste the link to the video into the word document, as well as THE TITLE OF THE VIDEO, so
that I can watch it.

In the same word document you will then answer these three questions about your news story.
A. What Beatitude(s) can we see being used in the article? Give specific examples from
the article and make sure it is clear how this person is living the Beatitudes.
B. Do you think it is easy for the person in the article to do what he/she is doing? Why or
why not? Explain.
C. If you were in the same situation as the person in the article do you think you could
respond to the situation the same way, by living the Beatitudes? Why or why not?
3) A Pope Francis Informational Poster. Our Pope Francis has exemplified living the Beatitudes
over and over again. Currently he is touring the United States and calling for a revolution of
tenderness and delivering a message of love and mercy. This is nothing new for our Pope. Find
an example of Pope Francis living or preaching the Beatitude lifestyle and create a one page
informational poster about it.

You can do this by hand or by using a computer program on regular sized paper or larger
poster paper that is available. (If you do it by hand you can print images off the web and
add them to your poster)

You must have:

At least one image of the Pope
One or more of the Beatitudes written on the poster (only ones relevant to what the
Pope is doing or saying)
One quote from the Pope, or statement about what he is doing, that relates to the
Beatitude lifestyle

4) Sources Page (Word Document)

When you use images/quotes/articles/videos from the Internet you need to cite your work.
Create a one-page word document with the citations for all of the items use in your project.
Each source needs a brief description and web address. Example: Picture of Child praying:
