THE WONDER OF

COMPUTERS
JUAN ANDRES HERNANDEZ

INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTERS

The creation of the computer has been a great leap forward for humanity. It has
help us advance rapidly in many fields such as research, entertainment and many
others. Just imagine what life would be if computer where never invented. Most of
us know what a computer is but I m gonna give you the definition of a computer.
Acomputeris a general-purpose device that can beprogrammedto carry out a
set ofarithmeticorlogicaloperations automatically.

PRE-COMPUTER AGE

Many inventions created before the computer age were crucial to the development
of the computer. Some of these inventions were the Pascal Calculator which was
the first mechanical calculating machine. Other machines that lead to the creation
of computers Leibnitz's calculator and Jacquards Loom` which by the way was one
of the first machines that were run by a program. Then Charles Babbage comes and
creates the Babbage difference engine and the Babbages Analytical engine which
was a great leap forward toward the computers we now have in our age.

FIRST GENERATION

1940-1956
Used Vacuum tubes
They were so big that they took entire rooms
They relied on a machine engine
AN example would be the ENIAC computers

SECOND GENERATION

1955-1964
It used transitors that made them smaller, cheaper and consumed less enrgy
More reliable than the first generation. Thewy were faster
A.C was needed
It required constant maintenance
An example is the IBM 7094

THIRD GENRATION
1964-1975
They used integrated circuits (IC)
A single IC has many transitors
Faster, more reliable and less expensive
Consumed less energy
Mouse and keyboard
Ex: IBM 370

FOURTH GENERATION
1975- 1980
Used a microprocessor which contains thousands of IC. Was created by Ted Hoff in
1971 for Intel
It was smaller
It was faster and smaller
Gave rise to personal computers
Portable and reliable
Computers became easily available

FIFTH GENERATION
1980-Beyond
Artificial Intelligence
Microprocessor chips
Neural Networking
Game playing
Development of Natural language processing
More user friendly interfaces with multimedia features
Availability of very powerful and compact computers at cheaper rates

WI-FI

Wi-Fi is the name of a popular wirelessnetworking technology that uses radio

waves to provide wireless high-speedInternetand networkconnections.
It can provide an internet connection to various users at a time which makes it ver
efficient
Most households and workspaces use wifi
