A Database Management System (DBMS) is a set of computer programs that controls

the creation, maintenance, and the use of the database with computer as a platfo
rm or of an organization and its end users. It allows organizations to place con
trol of organization-wide database development in the hands of database administ
rators (DBAs) and other specialists. A DBMS is a system software package that he
lps the use of integrated collection of data records and files known as database
s. It allows different user application programs to easily access the same datab
ase. DBMSs may use any of a variety of database models, such as the network mode
l or relational model. In large systems, a DBMS allows users and other software
to store and retrieve data in a structured way. Instead of having to write compu
ter programs to extract information, user can ask simple questions in a query la
nguage. Thus, many DBMS packages provide Fourth-generation programming language
(4GLs) and other application development features. It helps to specify the logic
al organization for a database and access and use the information within a datab
ase. It provides facilities for controlling data access, enforcing data integrit
y, managing concurrency controlled, restoring database.
Records management, or RM, is the practice of maintaining the records of an orga
nization from the time they are created up to their eventual disposal. This may
include classifying, storing, securing, and destruction (or in some cases, archi
val preservation) of records.
A record can be either a tangible object or digital information: for example, bi
rth certificates, medical x-rays, office documents, databases, application data,
and e-mail. Records management is primarily concerned with the evidence of an o
rganization's activities, and is usually applied according to the value of the r
ecords rather than their physical format.
