James Spackman Ward

James Spackman Ward was, born January 12, 1840 in Pewsey, Wiltshire,
England, to William Spanswick and Sarah Ann Ward. Later his mother married
William Spackman, September 8, 1845 in Polshot, Wiltshire, England. Although
James was reared by this man and later sealed to him, he always kept his mother’s
surname.

When James was sixteen years old, he and the Spackmans were baptized
into the Latter-Day Saint Church, Aug. 6, 1856, in Wilford, Wilt. Eng.

Harriet Brown was born Oct. 5, 1838 to John Brown and Sarah Mundy.
Sarah was baptized into the LDS Church April 16, 1846. John was baptized June
15, 1847. Harriet was baptized July 4, 1849. Her little sisters, Sarah and Eliza were
baptized May 1, 1857.

Harriet's mother died Feb. 27, 1850. He remarried Mar. 15, 1851 to Jane
Wilkins. After May 1857, he began performing several baptisms, listed in the
church records.

In 1858, the Spackmans moved to West Lavington. On March 16, 1861,


James and Harriet were married.

The next month, April 23, 1861, they sailed from Liverpool on the Clipper
ship "Underwriter". They arrived in New York on May 22, 1861, with 623 other
converts. They crossed the plains in with Homer Duncan's Company. On Dec. 20,
1861, Sarah Jane was born in Ogden, Weber UT. Sarah later married Edmund
Shaw. They had eleven children in No. Ogden.

James was a farmer and brick maker by trade. He helped to build the first
transcontinental telegraph line in the West, in 1861. He also helped to build the
first river canal in Weber Co., 1866.

James was ordained a high priest, Aug. 20, 1882. He served as a bishop's
counselor for thirteen years: and a Bishop of the North Ogden Ward for sixteen
years. He also served as Stake Patriarch.

James received his Patriarchal Blessing July 6, 1902 from George W. Larkin
in North Ogden. He is of the tribe of Ephraim.

On Feb. 4, 1869 Jon Brown and his daughter, Harriet received their
Patriarchal Blessings in North Ogden by Patriarch John Smith. He is of the lineage
of Joseph, and she of Ephraim.

She and her father served as proxies for several family members, in the
Endowment House, for baptisms.

Harriet died March 20, 1902, in North Ogden. She is buried in the Ben
Lomond Cemetery.

James remarried and was sealed to Francis Adelaide Cooley, Apr, 15, 1903,
SL. He died Nov. 29. 1928, and was buried Dec. 2, 1928, in the Ben Lomond
Cemetery.
