HIGHLIGHTS
Developed Leadership Academy for practicing and aspiring leaders designed to improve
skills of practicing administrators and both assess and develop the skills of aspiring
administrators.
Developed partnership with Michigan State University to develop a new MTSS system.
Championed the effort to bring Reading Corp to school district at Zero Cost to the district.
Assisted the City of Flint in the development of The Community Schools AmeriCorps
project. This project will support 80 AmeriCorps members during the next two years.
Developed comprehensive Marketing, Recruitment and Retention plan leading to increased
enrollment year over year. Plan included direct mail, print ads, radio campaign, TV campaign,
electronic and social media and grass roots recruitment.
Developed all programming for the MSU Good Schools Resource Center. Provided technical
support in the areas of math and literacy instruction, student voice and personalization and
quality community supports.
Elementary and Middle school received the status of "High Performing" through the Skillman
Foundation's "Good School's Making The Grade" program ($100,000 in grant funding).
Implemented Smartboard Technology district wide.
Led district through North Central Accreditation process and received full accreditation in
first year of application (2005)
District consistently met Adequate Yearly progress.
Developed relationship with the Taiwan Ministry of Education which allowed district to
recruit teachers from Taiwan to provide Mandarin Chinese instruction to students in 3rd-12th.
Served as the spokesperson for the American Delegation during the 2011 Taiwan recruitment
trip. The delegation included the states of Michigan, Illinois, Maryland and Utah.
Led District through the NCA Quality Assurance Review in 2010 and received the rating
Highly Functional in 5 out of 8 areas. (Remaining two areas were rated Operational, one
rating below Highly Functional).
Directed the bond refunding effort at Plymouth Educational Center and received investment
grade (BBB-) rating from Standard & Poors. This effort led to a 7% reduction in the interest
rate resulting in a yearly savings of $200,000 to the district. Rating affirmed in 2010 & 2011.
Led district through clean audits and maintained or increased fund balance on a yearly basis.
Oversaw the construction of the Plymouth Educational Center Park, additional classroom
space for Special Education and Art instruction, and a $1,000,000 synthetic turf
football/soccer field. Field named in my honor.
Assisted Board of Directors is overseeing the construction of new 75,000 sq. ft. K-8 th grade
facility.
Former owner of 4 Sylvan Learning Centers-first African American owned Sylvan franchises
in Michigan.

Flint Community Schools, Flint, Michigan

2014 - 2015

Assistant Superintendent
Provide leadership in strategic planning, curriculum development, research and evaluation, exceptional
student education, student services, career, community, and technical education, instructional media and
technology, federal programs, and staff development. Direct the planning, delivery, assessment, and
ongoing improvement of curriculum and instruction programs.

Report on the status of curriculum and instructional programs and services, including assessment
and evaluation information, at the request of the Superintendent.
Initiate the development of programmatic goals and instructional objectives on a district wide
basis within the scope of School Board policy, administrative direction, assessed student needs,
and operational constraints.
Assist in the development of policies and administrative guidelines for curriculum and
instructional services.

The Executive Director is the Chief Executive Officer of the Good Schools Resource Center-Detroit. The
Executive Director reports to the Assistant Dean of K-12 Outreach in the College of Education, and is
responsible for the organization's consistent achievement of its mission and financial objectives. The
Executive Director provides leadership in implementing an intensive technical assistance program within
available funding for a network of 15-30 Detroit area schools located within the Skillman Foundation
focus neighborhoods. Responsible for providing technical support in the areas of math and literacy
instruction, student voice and personalization and quality community supports.
In program development and administration:
Assure that the organization has a long-range strategy which achieves its mission, and toward
which it makes consistent and timely progress.
Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Assistant
Dean.
Maintain official records and documents, and ensure compliance with funder, federal, state and
local regulations.
Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field.
In communications:
See that the Assistant Dean is kept fully informed on the condition of the organization and all
important factors influencing it.
Publicize the activities of the organization, its programs and goals.

Served as the educational leader of the School, responsible for implementing and managing the policies,
regulations, and procedures of the Board of Directors to ensure that all students were supervised in a safe

Standards. Worked collaboratively to lead and nurture all members of the school staff and to
communicate effectively with parents, members of the community, and colleagues in other districts and
schools. Inherent in the position were the responsibilities of planning, curriculum development, program
