Tiger P.R.I.D.E (physical education, recreation, inclusion, development and enjoyment)

is an internship created by the Health Exercise and Sport Pedagogy Department in order to
develop the skills of undergraduate students in engaginginimprovingtheirteachingpracticesto
better prepare themselves to become professional educators. As part of the Evaluation Team
(ET) my job helps in aiding my Delivery Team (DT) improve their teaching skills through
producing reflexive and analytical evaluations regarding their current lessons. This week Tiger
P.R.I.D.E focused on
Movement Concepts (unit 2) . My DT for this unit is Lauren Nakaso who
will be an instructor for Tiger Pride for thenextfewweeks.ThisweekLaureninstructedtwenty
4th and 5th graders in Cleveland Elementary on September 29th and October 1st. During this
time students learned a variety of skills this week that related to the sport of Football which
included running routes, handoffs, and football kicking (punting) and catching. Inordertolearn
these skills effectively students were placed in manydifferentpositionsthroughouttheactivities
to learn how movement and accuracy is in incorporated in the game of Football. In order to
evaluate this unit effectively this paper will focus on just two systematic observations that will
assist my DT in improving their skills as an instructor in the future which will include:
System
For Observing Fitness Instruction Time (SOFIT) and Systematic Observation Teacher
Feedback/Questioning.

SystemforObservingFitnessInstructionTime(SOFIT)
In using the SOFIT to observe the class. I discovered thatLaurenwasabletoachieve22
minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) of her students on October 1. I
thought that it wasverythoughtfultoinvolvethestudentsininstructionofnewskillmovements.
Which evenafteranactivitywasfinishedtheywerestillsomewhatactive.Ididnothoweverfind
anything explicitly that I think should bechangedinamajorwaysinceitallworkedoutsowell.
However, there were some minor things that could further strategically improve Laurens
teaching performance or MVPA is maybe using warmup stretchs before instant activity.

SystematicObservationTeacherFeedback/Questioning
Lauren didgreatwhenitcametoteacherfeedbackand questioning.SimilartoUnitI,She
showed a lot of attentiveness toward her students. If an incident or situation came up she took
care of it right away at the same time still keeping her attention to her students. She gave great
positive feedback as well as constructive feedback to help students better excel in theactivities.
However I did find something while observing Laurens lesson is that she used a lotofpositive
feedback which is great. But it was the type of feedback. Though this may not be

Observation Idiosyncrasies
I thought this was important that Lauren should change her postive
feedback reponses a little bit. She often uses good and perfect a lot. I think she should use
newwords.ThisiswhatIfoundcouldhelpimproveLaurensperformance.

In conclusion, Lauren did very well. I also noticed that she did improve a lot from last
week. Which has shown that she is very eager and driventolearndifferentwaystoimproveher
performance as an instructor. I look forward toworkingwithhertoaideherinhergoaltobethe
