League of Women Voters of Richardson Will Hold Public Meeting on City Charter
Amendments
The League of Women Voters of Richardson will hold a public meeting on the proposed
amendments to the city charter that will be on the November 2015 ballot. The meeting will be
held on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at 7pm in the Richardson Room at the Richardson Civic
Center, 411 W. Arapaho Road, Richardson.
In 2014, Richardson City Council appointed an 11-member Charter Review Commission,
charged with reviewing the city charter and recommending changes. The commission reported
its findings to city council in June 2015. City staff created 83 ballot propositions from the
recommendations of the commission. On August 17, 2015, city council called for a special
election on November 3, 2015, to vote on the 83 propositions. Prior to this, the Richardson city
charter had not undergone a comprehensive review since 1989.
The panelists will be Robert Lowry, PhD, Professor in the Political Science Program of the
School of Economic, Political and Policy Sciences at the University of Texas at Dallas and
Matthew Wilson, PhD, Associate Professor of Political Science in the Dedman College of
Humanities and Sciences at Southern Methodist University. The moderator will be Sandy
Greyson, City of Dallas Council Member for District 12.
The panelists will discuss many of the proposed changes to the Richardson City Charter and
how the propositions, if passed, will affect the way the city conducts business. The panelists will
answer written questions submitted from the audience. Questions may also be submitted in
advance by sending them to voterservice@lwvrichardson.org. Emailed questions will be given
the same consideration as questions submitted at the event. The questions will be screened
according to League of Women Voters of Texas guidelines.
The meeting is funded by the League of Women Voters of Texas Education Fund Richardson
Account through donations from area residents and businesses.

participation of citizens in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and
