Practise fundamental movement skills and movement sequences using different body parts
and in response to stimuli (ACPMP008)

LESSON OUTCOMES: (These should relate to both the topic and to the
curriculum link)
ACARA:
Students will perform locomotor skills in any direction from one point to
another. Students will also create movement sequences without
equipment. Students will actively participate and engage in activities.
Positive and supportive relationships between students will be
strengthened through group work.

1 INTRODUCTION (whole

Creative Walking:
Walking in different ways with
different physical and facial
expressions and body awareness.
Instructions:
Students spread out in space so
that they can move around
without bumping into each other.
Ask children to walk like:
- Trying to sneak away with
little noise
- Trying to get to someone
quick and happy
- Feel sad

COMMENTS
Ensure that students are seated
and focussed on instructions
CHANGE IT:
Have children move while music
plays
Teacher chooses examples of
children moving (eg cat) for
others to copy that
demonstration
Make sure student in wheel
chair is engaged and
cooperating.
Ensure that the majority of
movements come from the
arms

Possum Trap:
Divide class into two equal
groups where one group is
possums and the other are
possum traps.
The possum traps form a circle
and hold hands. When the
teacher calls OPEN TRAPS the
possum traps raise their hands
above their heads while
maintaining hand hold with
partner on either side. The
possums begin running
continuously in and out of the
circle.
When the teacher calls SNAP the
possum traps lower their hands
and try to catch as many
possums as possible in the circle.
Teams then swap roles.

3 EXPLORATION

Animal stretches:
Have children stand in the circle
and guide the stretches.
- Stretch like a giraffe and
make yourself really tall
hands in the air
- Stretch like a mouse and
curl up into a tiny ball
- Wave your hands around as
if they were elephants ears
- Clap your hands together
like a crocodiles jaws
- Lunge like a frog slowly

FOCUS IT:
How does the swing of your
arms change if you are happy or
sad?
Try to always walk heel to toe

CHANGE IT:
continue a turn until all possums
are caught
Change animals. Have players
move like animals
Include student in wheel chair
by making students make
animal noises and have
students move safely
FOCUS IT:
How do you avoid other
possums while moving in and
out of the circle so you are not
blocked or bumped while
moving?

Have children give examples of


animal stretches and have the
rest of the class copy the
stretch.
Ensure that majority of
stretches focus on upper body
