OPENING A NEW DOCUMENT


Save your document as:
LAST NAME, FIRST INITIAL, PER, mrP

to your folder.

A. NAME: your last name, first initial, per MrP


240 resolution
8.5x10 (or10x8.5, whichever is more appropriate for your
background image)
Transparent background.

PREPARING YOUR BACKGROUND


1. Check your image for the following:

A balanced (mountain-like) HISTOGRAM


Appropriate cropping (adjust using the crop tool)
Clutter (use clone stamp to get rid of it!)
2. Change ONE of the dimensions (width OR height) to come as close
as possible to 8x10) The box that says constrain proportions should be
checked.

MOVING THE BACKGROUND INTO THE NEW DOCUMENT
1. In the background picture, make a copy of the background by
clicking and dragging it to the create a new layer icon in the layers palette
2. Use the move tool (or hold ctrl and click and drag) and drag
background picture into the new document you created
3. Move into place
4. Lock the layer.
5. Close the original JPEG background image. DONT SAVE CHANGES
to the ORIGINAL!!

PART TWO:

BRINGING IN THE POTATOES!!!

Open the potato picture.


Open the project document that you created in the first step.
Drag the potato image into the project document.
Close the original potato image.
Use the magic wand to delete the background of the potato.
Copy the potato: Use the MOVE TOOL and hold ALT and drag two
potato clones. You should have 3 potatoes.
G. Rename the new potato layers. Give them actual names if you want
i.e. Fred or Amy.

PART THREE:
DRESSING YOUR POTATO

Open the documents (there are two) called potato parts. They are in:
Use the lasso tool draw a selection around the part that you want.
HOLD CTRL AND DRAG it over to your potato INTO ITS OWN LAYER
RENAME the layer Freds left leg or whichever part it is.
Use the MAGIC WAND TOOL to delete all of the white background for
each part.
HOLD CTRL S to save all of your work so far!
Repeat steps A-E again for all of the parts for all of your people
Use the PAINT BUCKET and GRADIENT TOOL to paint all of the parts!
HOLD CTRL S to save all of your work so far!
Use the TRANSFORM tools (EDIT>TRANSFORM) to make all of the parts
fit and be the right size for your potatoes.

PART FOUR:
ADDING FILTER EFFECTS

A. Go to your first potato layerFred or whoever he/she is.


B. Go to FILTER>FILTER GALLERY
C. Experiment with different filters. Choose one that makes it look
cartoony so it goes with the parts
D. Once you find one that looks good, go into all other real layers (as
opposed to cartoon parts) and add that same filter to create a sense of
UNITY
E. HOLD CTRL S to save all of your work so far!

PART SIX:
ADDING SHADOWS
1. Make all layers (even background) invisible. (click on the eye) of
EVERYTHING except the potato parts that you want to give a shadow.
2. Go to the layer of the potato (whatever his/her name is)
3. Go to LAYER>MERGE VISIBLE.
4. Go to the move tool.

5. Hold ALT and click/drag a copy of your potato.


6. Rename layer of shadow: so and sos shadow.
7. Move the shadow layer beneath the potato layer.
8. In the shadow layer, HOLD: CTRL+U
9. Move the LIGHTNESS slider all of the way to the left. (It should be
black now). Click OK

In the layers palette, change the opacity of the shadow layer to
match other shadows in the image.

Move the shadow so that it is positioned near its source.

Free transform it to be close to the right size.

Go to EDIT>TRANSFORM>SKEW.

14. To make the edges softer, go to FILTER>BLUR>GAUSSIAN BLUR

FINAL STEPS:
1.
WARNING -You cannot undo this once
you save. ALL OF YOUR LAYERS WILL BE
STUCK TOGETHER: Go to
LAYERS>FLATTEN IMAGE.
2.
SAVE your image as a PNG file.
SUBMIT TO ME AS A PNG!!

Before submitting for a grade, check
to see that the file name is correct: last
name, first initial MR P
4.
Complete your checklist and submit
for your grade.
5.
Upload to your MY WORK page of
your website.
