El Deafo

and David
Lasky

I was a regular little kid.

I couldnt hear.

I am pulled away from my parents.

An amazing thing happens inside: I

hear a beep!

Hey what are those things in your

ears? Are you deaf?

The Phonic Ear is paired with a

microphone that my teacher, Ms.
Lufton, is supposed to wear.

to turn myself into a superhero,

too!

SUPER HEARING

even though its hard to hear what

people are saying.

Sadly, the TV does not have

subtitles.

With or without my superpowers, I am

still El Deafo.

For the fist time ever, El Deafo uses

her super powers for the good of
others

Of course Im a hero- I am El Deafo!

El Deafo is a story about how a young deaf

girl grew up in the school system. At first she
is reluctant to open up to others and is
jealous that they can hear while she cant.
Cece then believes she has super powers,
because she has super hearing. Cece is able
to hear teachers conversations, because
they forget to turn their microphones off.
Cece then starts to get upset, because she
thinks the other kids are just being nice to
her because she is deaf. In the end Cece
opens up and uses her super power for
good.
