Week 13

Gods permanent commitment

The story of Adam and Eve has sometimes been presented as Gods first
attempts at relationship with man. However the fall forced Him to think of an
alternative. That is not true.
The need for the incarnation did not surprise God - He planned this before the
fall.[1] The incarnation - the event in which God would become man - was His
idea from the start. The fall did not necessitate redemption; redemption was
planned before the fall.[2]
He did not simply endure being human for 33 years and then, with great relief,
returned to being God! 1 Tim 2:5, was written after the resurrection and
ascension and reveals that Christ Jesus is still a man: For there is one God and
one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus. The incarnation is
permanent. He united Himself with Humanity in such a way that He would never
be separated again. He bound Himself to our existence; committed Himself to
our destiny. The resurrection is proof that this God-man union is not a temporary
event, but an eternal unbreakable union.
Mediator normally refers to a third party who stands between two other parties in the gap - in order to make peace or negotiate a deal. However Christ is a
completely different type of mediator: God and man meet in this one person of
Christ Jesus. He is not a third party; He is God and He is man. This is the perfect
mediation in which man faces God directly and God faces man directly and
brings about a perfect harmony in the person of Christ.
God has invested everything He has, everything He is, in mankind.[3] He has no
other investment, no other interest, no other occupation than you! He believes in
you, He is fully committed to you. ...How many are Your thoughts toward me,
how vast the sum of them... Ps 139:17
Meditation:
For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ
Jesus 1 Tim 2:5
Affirmation:
The union of God and man in Christ Jesus, has no distance or separation in it.
This is the same union I enjoy: No distance, no separation!
