Who
Saddam Hussein's US backed army invades
Kuwait, an American ally, in protest of US
forces in Saudi Arabia.

What
After the invasion of Kuwait, US and UN forces
enacted Operation Desert Shield in an effort to
protect Saudi Arabia from Hussein's forces,
giving him an ultimatum that would eventually
result in Operation Desert Storm.

When
From August of 1990 to March of 1991,
coalition forces enacted Operation Desert
Storm and Desert Shield.

Where
Hussein's Iraqi forces initially invaded the
nation of Kuwait, causing US intervention to
protect neighboring Saudi Arabia.

Why
Hussein invaded Kuwait because there were oil
interests, it was an American ally, and the
United States had recently pledged support for
Israel, an enemy of Iraq.

How did Operation Desert Storm


contribute to causing 9/11?
The decision to allow US and other allied
troops to deploy soldiers into Saudi Arabia
territory angered Al Qaeda, who believed that
foreign troops allowed into Saudi Arabia
profaned sacred soil.
