-The Central Intelligence Agency Fact Book on Cuba summarized several key facts
and historical dates, including data points and important events. It provided me
trusted information from a Government source in a concise and useful manner. It
allowed for limited to no political spin, which ensured a neutral assessment.

-This article by Tanya Somanader at the official White House web site, gave an
excellent summary describing the steps that the Obama Administration is undertaking
in relation to diplomatic ties with Cuba. Even though it put a positive spin on the
events, it does give pertinent information including dates of when diplomatic
relations were severed and what steps the government is taking now including a copy
of the letter sent to Raul Castro by President Obama.

Cuba on my mind: Cuba from Columbus to Fidel Castro

-The self-published book by Arthur Nazaretin gives a compact summary of the

history of Cuba and key events leading up to a contemporary view of the island. Mr.
Nazaretin has traveled to Cuba and is primarily trying to give a flavor of how it

would be to travel there. His summary of historical events range from the
colonization of Cuba, up to the Cuban revolution and a description of its current
government. I found the information useful, but was looking for a more
comprehensive perspective.

-The article in US News.com by Jorge Benitez gave a compelling and wellarticulated argument as to why restoring diplomatic relations with Cuba would not be
a good thing. It gave statistics including poll information by the Atlantic council and
dollar figures to previous debt held by the nation. The author is a senior fellow at the
Atlantic Council think tank, so it must be noted this information could be heavily
weighted in opposing the normalizing of relations and gave no counter point
perspective.

This article tells of the long journey from when the U.S. cut economic ties with
Cuba in 1961. The authors Danielle Renwick and Brianna Lee writers and editors for the council
of foreign relations, write to an audience of concerned citizens who would be researching this
topic. This has a well-articulated perspective from the time line view however the US news
source had many better arguments for why this is a good or bad situation.

This article was written in 2012; where as many of our other sources were in 2015 as we
renewed relations with Cuba. This gives much insight on the exact timeline with dates and
events. There is no author listed by BBC is known to be one of the best news sources. This is a
interesting lay out of the data for this project.

LeoGrande,W.(2015,August16).StopPunishingCuba'sPeople:LifttheEmbargo.RetrievedOctober7,2015.

This article explains in great detail the good that will come from lifting the embargo entirely. The
author is a professor of government and former dean of the American University School of Public
Affairs. He is also considered an expert on Latin American history. This was intended for a liberal
audience as that is usually who agrees with lifting the trade embargo. This is a very pro Cuba
article which many of our other articles have two sides.
