Introduction
Stress Management helps in managing the
stress of everyday life and reduces the
impact of stressors at the workplace. Stress
results in symptoms which vary in severity
according to people and situations. These
include decline in physical health, increased
levels of depression which could also induce
body-mind disorders such as dizzy spells,
anxiety attacks and may also affect our
immune,
cardiovascular
and
nervous
systems.

Stress Management helps in managing the stress

of everyday life and reduces the impact of


stressors at the workplace.
Stress results in
symptoms which vary in severity according to
people and situations. These include decline in
physical health, increased levels of depression
which could also induce body-mind disorders such
as dizzy spells, anxiety attacks and may also affect
our immune, cardiovascular and nervous systems.
Primary and secondary data have been used for
the study. Interviews were taken from the students
of the St. Josephs Institute(BANGALORE). The
research throws light on students managing stress
in their life.

Abstract
Some students find education difficult. The reason

for this being the incompatibility between the


theoretical aspects given in books vis--vis the real
life situations. This brings in stress in a students life.
This paper focuses on stress within students and
suggests means to manage and control it.
To increase the confidence level of the students and
prepare them for facing the toughest of the
interviews. The Institute must prepare them for
mock interviews, stress rounds, aptitude knowledge.
Not only the Institute, but also family support is
quite essential for the student as family helps in
ironing out the wrinkles of stress in an individuals
life.

Title of the Project
Stress Management in the life of Students of the
St. Josephs Institutions, Bangalore.
Nature and Statement of Problem
To find out the stress levels during education, faced
by students in the Modernized Era and also to check
what is their opinion on the careers development /
Personality development activity on a regular basis
to ensure a 360 degree development.
Objectives of the Study
The present study thus aims to know the Stress
Management of Students before / after, such as the
Family Stress, Academic Stress, career selection
stress and problem to learn/acquire the personality
skills.

Framework of the Study
The framework of this study was done initially to understand
or to know Stress Management of St. Josephs Institutions
in Bangalore.
To frame this report, there were people who helped for doing
this project Prof. Muktha, Dr. Shubhra Rahul, Br. Mani & Dr.
Raja Jebasingh St. Josephs College of Commerce, Mr. Arokia
Raj, Principal of St. Josephs PU Evening College, Fr. Sunith
Prabhu S.J., Prof. Joy Alex, Mr. Mansoor Ahmed of St. Josephs
Evening College, Rev. Fr. Celectine Sera, of St. Josephs Boys
High School, Mrs. Josephine Ashok Kumar of St. Josephs PreUniversity College & Last but not least our Fr. Charles
Lasrado.
Limitations
This project is limited only towards St. Josephs Institutes in
Bangalore

Interviewed ten students from each college &

three senior faculty members to find out the stress


faced by the students during their education.
1.Many of senior faculty said that, most of the stress
is induced by the institution, where the institutions
give pressure in the way of Attendance, Surprise
Test, Quiz, Exams and Heavy Assignments.
According to the survey, when scaled, the result
showed that 60% stress came from Institutions &
balance 40% comes from the Family, Peer Group,
etc.

3.Do the students face stress more, when

they are not able to understand the


concepts taught in Institution?
The students and faculty feel that most
of the theory papers are not fully
understood. This causes the students to
undergo a great deal of stress,
especially during examination times.

5.How do you face an interview and are there

any
chances
for
developing
your
Personality?
During interviews students feel nervous,
they start biting their nails, they press their
fingers hard against their palms etc.
Students feel that they have a very little or
no time to learn about personality
development. This is because most of the
time is devoted for the Institutions
prescribed syllabus.

7. The final the question that was asked

Can stress be removed completely by


a student?
The general response was that it is
impossible to remove stress during the
education stage of life. However, one of
the senior most faculty member said
that he had seen students who are
completely stress free.
