Vyatipatam,Ardhodaya,Mahodaya PuNya Kaalam

In Mahabharata, if on a Sunday, Amavasya and one of the stars Sravanam, Asvini,

Avittam,
Tiruvadirai or Ayilyam, occurs, then it is called Vyatipatam. This Vyatipata yogam
is equal to a
hundred Surya grahanas in merit.
If in Pousha or Maagha month, Amavasya, Sunday, Vyatipata yogam and Sravana star
occur,
then it is called Ardhodaya. It is equal in merit to a crore of Surya grahanas.
If the above combination occurs on a Monday, it is called Mahodaya.
Mahodhaya Punniya Kalam is on 25th Thai Amavasya, Manmadha Varusham (Feb. 8, 2016)

Such times come very rarely and the last one came around 144 years.
At VedaraNya Kshethram
The three classes of bodies of water here are called Vedaamrudha Theertham (Rive
r), Vedha Nadhi (Ocean), and Vedatheertham (Manikarnikai). History says that as
per Puranas, Ganga Matha herself comes here daily to get rid of her Paavams (s
ins), take a dip in the Vedhatheertha Kulam (pond) in this temple. This is depic
ted by the fact the sand in the temple pond sport a different colour from the r
est. Puranas also say that the four Vedas took a dip in this holy water during
the month of Margazhi and attained Moksham.
Like Kaasi, Gaya, and Rameswaram, this Sthalam is a praised Parikaara Sthalam fo
r Pithru Dhoshams and is on par with them. Those who are unable to do the last r
ites and other pithru related rituals (Thithi, Devasam, Tharpanam) of their ance
stors should come here during Aadi Ammavasai, Thai Ammavasai, and Maalaya Paksha
m to do the rituals to their ancestors which will acts as a very good Parigaaram
(atonement) and remedy.

mes once in every 12 years in Masi Month, Maga Nakshathram, also will take place
. Since this two Maha Punniya periods come one after the other, this Mahodhaya P
unniya Kaalam is extremely auspicious, sacred, and very rare to get. Since these
two rare and very auspicious happenings are coming in a very short span of time
, one after the other, we should take a dip in the holy water here during this p
eriod and do Thithi, Tharpanam, and Dhanam which will give crores and crores of
benefit than done normally, as per our Puranas. Doing Snanams (head bath) in Vedh
anadhi also called as Sannidhi Kadal, the theertham inside the temple called as Mani
karnikai Theertham, Rudrakodi Kadal Theertham located in the south bottom of the te
mple, and Aadthi Sethu Kadal Theertham are considered very very auspicious. We sho
uld take a dip in the holy water here during this period and do Thithi, Tharpana
m, and Dhanam which will give crores and crores of benefit than done normally, a
s per our Puranas.
