Observation

Record:

Child: Ethan Date: 15/09/15 Observer: Emma
Observation:
Ethan sat with Steph at the writing table
ready to make his placemat. He picked up
a black texta and identified the letters in
his name. Ethan used the model template
of his name and begin attempting to write
the letters. Steph corrected Ethans pencil
grip as Ethans hand was twisted
backwards. Ethan copied the letters well,
making accurate approximations of each
letter and writing from left to right. Once
completed he looked up at Steph and said
Its Ethan.

Analysis:
Ethan is beginning to develop an understanding of concepts of print, such as
writing from left to right, and using symbols to create meaning. He is able to
identify the letters of his name and shares his knowledge and satisfaction with
educators. He takes on corrective feedback about his pencil grip and was able to
apply this immediate, and maintain it throughout the rest of the writing
experience.
