FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT, YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE AN INTERACTION WITH


SOMEONE WHO WORKS OR USES A CARE SERVICE. YOU WILL HAVE A 1:2:1 AND A
GROUP INTERACTION. YOUR TOPIC CAN BE ABOUT ANYTHING, BUT ITS BEST TO
KEEP IT WORK/SERVICE RELATED
YOU MAY CHOOSE A SERVICE FROM ANY OF THESE SETTINGS:

YOU THEN NEED TO COMPLETE EACH TASK BELOW;

PART A- The types and range of communication skills you have used,
and an awareness of the care value base (20 marks)
1. Introduce and explain what good communication is.
2. Identify and introduce your service and what you intend to do.
3. Explain at least 4 different types of communication that you intend
to use e.g. language, signing, cultural, music, drama, visual, offering
support, electronic, technology etc.
4. Explain what the transmission of values are.
5. Explain what the Care Value Base is and why its important when
communicating with others.
PART B- The transmission of the care values in the way you have
communicated with the person concerned (18 marks)
6. Create your questions that you will use to interview your people.
7. Complete your interviews and provide a transcript of both
interactions. Fill out a witness statement for each talk.

8. Explain how communication and the transmission of values have been


demonstrated in your work related area/context.
9. Compare and analyse each interaction by providing a full report
about what you found out and how the discussions went.
10.Explain the answers to your questions and what communication skills
the people showed when they were questioned.
11. Explain exactly what Care Values your service uses and honours
when communicating with their clients and staff. What evidence did
you see of Care Values being used whilst doing your interactions?

UNIT 2 GCE
WHAT IS COMMUNICATION?
This work will help you write Part A.

Communication is the transmission of messages from one


source to another. There are many different ways to tell
someone information, such as talking, listening, writing,
reading, miming, signing, typing. There are also many different
sources of medium to communicate messages with, such as
T.V., radio, Internet, newspapers, magazines, films, Advertising
billboards, text, mobile phones, telephone etc, etc,

UNIT 2 GCE
Starting your interactions
The most important part of your assignment is to decide who or
where you will have your 1-2-1 conversation and your group
discussion. The first thing to do is make sure that place/person
can fit into one of these four categories.

HEALTH CARE e.g. Doctors, NHS staff, Health Centres, Hospital, Clinics
EARLY YEARS CENTRES e.g. Nurseries, child minders, primary schools.
CARE OF OLDER PEOPLE e.g. Maurice Jagger Centre, Care Home
INDIVIDUALS WITH SPECIFIC NEEDS e.g. Sexual Health, Learning Diff.

What you do talk about is totally up to you, but the best


interactions are ones that find out more about the
service/setting and how they rely on communication in order to do
their job better and care for the needs of clients e.g.;
Prepare a short interview with someone who works at the
service and ask them how important communication is.
Do a short task with a group of young children and see how
they communicate with you to understand the task.
Ask a client what they think about the service they use.
Go to a Care Home and join in with an activity or observe
how the staff communicate with clients
