Unit/Topic: Mathematics
Date:
Length: 45 minutes
Year Level: Year 9 (low level)
Key Learning Area:
Lesson Intention: I will be able to organise data by using Stem and Leaf Plots.
Success Criteria:
I can organise data by using Stem and Leaf Plot.
I can find Mean, Mode, Median and Range with Stem and Leaf Plot.
Outcomes:
ACMSP228: Identify everyday questions and issues involving at least one numerical and at
least one categorical variable, and collect data directly and from secondary sources
LESSON OUTCOMES:
Students have already known how to collect data from different sources and evaluate them. From
last lesson, they were reviewed how to find Mean, Median, Mode and Range from a set of data.
Year 8s lesson outcomes:
ACMSP284: Investigate techniques for collecting data, including census, sampling and
observation
ACMSP206: Explore the practicalities and implications of obtaining data through sampling
using a variety of investigative processes
This class is the second level class. Some of them can work well individually or in group. I am going
to let them work individually or in pair. However, there are six students that cannot maintain
constant concentration so I will separate them and place them with good students to work in pair.

Teachers activities
- Have students stand up
- Choose one of them to
answer a question on power
point
- If they can give a right
answer, they can sit down
and choose 2 or 3 students
to sit down with them.
- Continue till no one

Main Content:
Teachers activities
- Lead to the today lesson
Stem and Leaf Plot
- Ask students if any of them
know what Stem and Leaf
Plot is
- Hand out the prepared note
- Let them watch the video
on the power point
- Ask them to place the step
from 1 to 3 as they listen to
the video explaining how to
use Stem and Leaf Plot
- Pause at each step to
explain more
- Show answer on the smart
board for students to correct
their answers.
- Ask them to stick the note
on the notebook
- Ask them to do the exercise
on the power point on their
notebook
- Collect students note book
to check their understanding
after class
Students activities
- Note down the title of the
lesson
- Answer of possible
Individual work
- Do as required
- Correct if necessary

RESOURCES
- White board, laptop, power point, internet, pens, pencils, glue.
- Text book: Haese R., Haese S., Bruce M., Harris K., Kappelle D. Mathematics for Year 9 (2001), (5nd
ed.) Adelaide, Australia: Hases & Harris Publication.

- Prepared notes.
If they dont follow teachers expectations, they will be given minuses in their record. To encourage
answer, teacher will give pluses marked in their record.
Teacher keeps walking around while students are doing their task to check the attention and
understanding. Also, teacher should encourage students contribution verbally and nonverbally.
ASSESSMENT
- After giving them 10 minutes to do their exercise 1, 2, 3 on page 230 231, Mathematics for Year 9,
