Material
used for
this LU

YOUR module guide, pp.39

YOUR prescribed book: pp. 252-291

Task 1:
Explain the
validity,
reliability or
trustworthines
s of the
research (10
marks)

You will need to provide both validity and

reliability for your quantitative study

Validity and
Reliability
(Quantitati
ve)
(Module guide, p.
39 and Text book,
pp.252-257)

Validity refers the trustworthiness of your

findings (results) as measureable and provable
(through numerical and statistical results)
Reliability is linked to measuring tools or
methods that you have employed
Essentially both elements add credibility to
your study
You should ask yourself if someone else had
to conduct the exact same study would their
outcomes be the same as yours?
That is validity and reliability

Trustworthiness is linked to qualitative studies

Trustworthin
ess
(Qualitative)

Trustworthiness is divided into 4

subcategories (pp.258-259): (1) credibility, (2)
transferability, (3) dependability and (4)
confirmability

(Module guide, p.
39 and Text book,
pp.258-259)

You will need to refer to all 4 categories as part

of this section for your final submission
All four elements add to the trustworthiness of
your research proposal

Task 2:
Discuss
ethical
consideration
s and possible
limitations of
the research
study (10
marks)

Ethical considerations need to be

taken into account

Ethical
consideratio
ns
(Module guide, p.
39 and Textbook,
pp.262-273)

How have you maintained ethics in

your research? (participation consent
form, promise of confidentiality,
truthful representation of findings)
It is not sufficient to merely
describe various ethical
considerations - you will
need to explain how you
plan to uphold these ethical
principles throughout your
research

Limitations
of the Study
(Module guide, p.
39 and Textbook,
pp.274-281)

Du Plooy et al (2014, p.291) states that

limitations are any potential problems that you
foresee when conducting your research study
These limitations could be linked to the
availability of capital and resources, access to
information, lack of control, time-limitations
and so on
Be clear and provide examples

Task 3:
Discussion
of the
anticipated
contribution
of the
research
study (10
marks)

Anticipated
contribution
of the
research
study
(Module guide, p. 39
and Text book, p.291)

Simply motive the anticipated

contribution of your study
To your chosen field of study
And to what extend has it
contributed to society and the
existing body of knowledge out
there

Task 4
Consult
checklist and
ensure you
adhere to
layout/ format
requirements +
spelling,
grammar and
referencing (20
marks)
